Hand washing clothes.

posted 31st Jan
Since I'm on maternity leave, I'm not going to have the money to do laundry as often, seeing as it's roughly $4.50 for a single load.
I was thinking of doing some hand washing once every other day or so just to hold me over until I'm able to do laundry.
What are some items that would be okay to hand wash?
Also, what's the best way to do so?

I've handwashed everything for two years now, since we moved into an apartment with no w/d. I fill up my bath tub, and put a little soap in it. I scrub, scrub, scrub scrub. I drain, fill it up again and repeat. I dain, and then fill with cold water and I rinse. I wring them out, and hang them up. I do three loads a day to keep up.

Do you let it sit for a little before scrubbing?

I don't generally feel like I need to, but sometimes yes. It really depends.

Ok, this might sound stupid too..but, what do you use to scrub the clothes?
or do you just scrub against itself?

Well, I hand washed some stuff for a whole year when we lived in an apartment without a washer and dryer. The rest like bedding and badly stained stuff or whatever, I took to Mom's once a week and sat there a whole day doing wash. Stuff that was just worn, not stained, I'd hand wash. I didn't really "scrub" them per say. I just put a little soap in hot tub water, let them sit, then drain water after 20 minutes, and then rinse them all out to hang dry. You can buy special things to help hand washing be easier, but I was too tired to go out of my way with a newborn.

I actually made an agreement with my grandparents, so I don't have to worry about this now. I will drop of laundry once a week, for $15 they will wash as much as I need. or I can buy all the laundry soap for them too.

So, whichever is cheaper for me the said works.

and BTW, using their washer/dryer myself is out of the question.
My grandma has a brand new one.. and noone is allowed to touch it lol

I wouldn't be so concerned about using it myself anyways. You won't wanna do laundry once you have baby. It'll be nice to get the help you need. And it's nice she's willing to help you out. My Mom picked UP a few loads and took them to her house, washed them, and then brought them BACK to me after I first had Chris. I thought that was super sweet of my Mom.
