Quoting melindapple:" Have you seen the photo going around facebook about the "pastor" who opted out of an automatic gratuity ... [snip!] ... do so. Others say its crap and gratuity should be automatic because servers lose money due to improper tips. What do you think?"

I think that if some pastor really did that, he's a major douche.

I don't mind tipping because I feel like servers are more likely to do a good job if they think they're going to be rewarded (my husband disagrees and thinks they should be paid a flat rate just like most professions).

I'm big on tipping. I factor that in when we decide to go out. I start at 15% and go from there. If someone doesn't want to tip, they shouldn't go out to eat.

I always tip 15, 20%-I also tip for takeout. It's part of the price to me, and I worked a few years in the service industry and know how bad it sucks to be stiffed when you're only making a few bucks an hour. Other people can do whatever they want with their money, but I think leaving a stupid note is just ridiculous.

I think that this will turn into a HUGE drama conversation but I always tip 20-30% and I think if you go to a sit down restaurant and don't tip then you are just plain trashy. If you can't afford to tip or don't want to then go to taco bell.
I often tip at places like taco bell as well

I tip based on service. You are really good and I tip amazing...ok waiters I tip about 12%...I have only stiffed a waiter once and that was because he was terrible and rude. He actually tossed the to go box at our table and knocked over my drink and walked away when we had been nothing but polite to him the whole time even tho he was terrible and forgot almost everything

I do a universal 12% then round to the nearest dollar unless someone was exceptional. I have been known to give a $25 tip before on a $80 meal though.

I haven't seen it...

Being I have ONLY worked in restaurants, I am BIG on tipping unless the waiter/waitress is rude, then I tip 1-2 bucks. If the service is good, always 5$ +.

I thought fast food employees can't accept tips. Do they take the ones you give? Idk, I've never worked in any food joint.

It's from 3rd Rock from the Sun, when Dick sets a pile of bills on the table for a tip and keeps taking them away when the waitress does something even minorly imperfect.

I think they SHOULD get paid more than they do, bottom line. That said I do not like to tip less than 15% unless the waiter is terrible. If they are awesome I tip more.

My next door neighbor is a waitress and told me she got a party of 35(!) the other day. They left her a $25 tip. Now that is just sad.
