Tornadoes?

We're under a tornado watch til 2am. I've never been through a tornado, and I don't plan on it. But what should I listen for? Right now we're just getting big gusts of strong wind.

Hail is usually a good indicator. The sirens will go off if one is near/possible of happening.

we are under the same watch down here.... listen for a loud noise normally... never seen one myself.. i have the weather channel app on my phone and it sends an instant alert anytime there is one for my area i'm in at the time. if there is a Tornado warning that means conditions on the radar indicate or infact a tornado has been confirmed, and it would typically tell you to take cover... it gives me instant blaring loud alerts on my Droid

You would know. The rain would suddenly slow or stop and you would here what sounds like a train. I have been through five different tornadoes but the worst of that was an F3.

We have a siren that goes off whenever the fire dept sends out a truck, do you think the tornado one would be different?

Not everyone has sirens. We don't so we have to learn to watch the sky and the news here.

We are under watch but it shouldn't be too bad. Seems like its just passing us. It's very windy here, been raining all day.

They sound like trains to me. When i was in middle school we had one touch down RIGHT beside our school and i was looking out the window when it happened. I literally watched it touch down.. then they sent is to the halls with a book over our head.

Sirens will go off. You'll get hail and heavy winds. And just before the tornado it'll get really quiet, then sound like a freight train comin through.

I hate storms, especially ones with tornadoes.

Ours is different. It's really loud and like... deep? lol I don't know how to explain it, but it's definitely noticeable.

Actually, that's when I was living in KY. I don't even know if the city I'm in now has one  

Your best bet is to keep the weather/news on tv or a radio. If the wind starts to sound worse (some say tornadoes sound like a train - to me it's just LOUD) or the lights flicker lots, or you see heavy objects (limbs, signs, full trash cans, etc) blowing around or being knocked over take shelter just in case.

Its not even raining here. Just SUPER windy.

I'm in NC and the same storm is coming through here. We are under watch until 2am as well, but right now the wind is just blowing a little and it's raining a little. I doubt it will actually turn into a tornado but just keep your news on or the radar up on your computer. That's what I'm doing.

was under that last night until 4am, it was completely done and over with by midnight. We just had strong winds and heavy rain. Hopefully it passes for you!
