If your child had/has a lisp.

posted 30th Jan
This is going to be a post and run for now, I have to put the boys down for the night.

But, I have a couple of questions:

1) When did you first notice it? How old were they?
2) When did you bring it up to their pediatrician?
3) What did the pediatrician do about it?
4) If therapy or other steps were taken: has it worked?

Axavier is 2 years 4 months, and he talks a lot, he knows a lot of words, but DH and I have noticed that when he says certain things, you can hear a lisp in his pronunciation and you can see it in the way his lips move when saying those words (if that makes sense) and we're wondering what to do and what steps to take to address this.

Any input is welcome. Thank you.

DS1 had one around 3yrs old. we brought it up with the pedi. "oh it'll clear up" he had his KDG physical and still had it. they then said he'll probably need speech in school. the speech teacher said to have him look in a mirror as he says words, watch how his mouth forms, where his tongue is, etc. he's in his 2nd year of speech and you can tell a HUGE difference

My son's pedi brought it up at his 5 year check up.

We called his future elementary school and set up a screening.

They screen him and then send a speech therapist to his pre-k for free to work with him.

Elliot was a habitual thumb sucker. He's now 8 and his big teeth are coming in, their pretty crooked and spaced. He's definitely got a lisp and has since he was pretty young. I'm not concerned about it. I think it's cute and he is completely understandable. I'm sure once he's old enough to get braces that should correct most of it.

I've never brought it up with the Dr. because I'm sure its a dental thing.
