when i was pregnant with my first I was terrified of inductions as all I heard was horror tales. When I went post date and they found out my amniotic fluid was going low and I should be induced...I cried! I was terrified.

I now am pregnant with my 7th child and have been induced 4 times so far because of going post dates and fluid levels declining below safe levels......so let me put your mind at ease....

It will be just fine! I have done all my labors both induced and ones that went on their own drug free natural. I have had babies up to 11 lbs too and they all were born just fine.

Does it hurt more? Well not really I would say. The difference is when you go on your own you generally build more slowly to the point where its getting pretty painful. In an induction you can sort of jump start to that point a bit quicker. But, either way you have to get to that painful point and beyond sooner or later so its coming now matter what.

Another difference is that when induced you may be starting with an undialated cervix or a barely dilated cervix where if you go on your own your cervix most likely will start dilating and you won't even know over days or weeks. Then when full blown labor comes on you have less dilating to do till you are done. So inductions can possibly take longer too.

Really, either route you are going to feel some pain. a lot of pain. But, it will be over....there is an end. Remembering that makes it easier to take. WIth each contraction just tell yourself...One closer to being done! Instead of getting freaked by a contraction's start...relax into in and remember "I am one step closer to finished".
