Do you think it'd be too much??

posted 30th Jan
I am a single mom, no child support, and I'm struggling. I currently work in an infant room at a daycare 40hrs/week. DD is in the infant room so she's with me all day and is obviously there 40hrs/week too. I was thinking about getting a part time job at a local gym in their kid room for 4 hours twice during the week, 5 hours Saturday and 4 hours Sunday. I really need just a little extra to get by. DD would be there for those hours too.
Do you think it's be too much for her to handle being in one daycare setting for 40hrs/week and another for 17hrs?? She's 9.5 months. I keep going both ways with it. It's okay because she's with me and not strangers but its not okay because she never gets a break from other people. Aaagh please help.

You gotta do what you gotta do. It's not ideal for either of you but kudos for you for trying to better your situation

My dd has been in day at while I worked 3 job at the center she was at daycare in. She never cared. She loved it there and got to see me periodically thorough the day.

How many hours a week was that though?

My daughter does 40 hours a week and another day with her nan on top. She loves it too

37 hours for my full time job teaching prek (which i usually ended up staying 40). Then I taught night classes twice a week for 1.5 each. Then I ran a girl scout troop 3 hours a week (for awhile I was running two when my coleader got cancer and had to quit, that was an extra 3 hours a week).

I don't think it would be... I mean, you're there w/ her the whole time. That's pretty awesome. I don't think it'd stress her out too much at all.

I think it would be way to much time away from home for my LO, but all kids are different. It might not be too much for your LO. But I think if you are questioning it then maybe it is not the best idea

What about support from the state? Can you try applying for that to help you with that little extra you need?

I am sure its really hard, I'm sorry.

Thanks ladies   I think I'm gonna try it and if it ends up being stressful to her, ill quit. She's pretty laidback and loves being with other kids. I also talked to my mom and she said she'd watch her a some of the weekday nights.

I do get $85 in foodstamps but it doesn't go very far. I use wic also. My rent is what kills me. I can pay my bills, but I always seem to be just barely getting by. This will give me an extra $500 or so monthly plus a gym membership so maybe I can lose some weight too!

Would you be able to file for child support?

That IS quite a big bump a month.. worse comes to worse you could try it for a month and see how it goes you know?

I think it's ok. You gotta do what you gotta do and it's great that you get to be with her all the time.

That's my thinking... I just made an account on care.com. There's a lot of nanny positions paying as much as I'd make at BOTH jobs. Sooooo I'm applying to those. That would be ideal. Then I wouldn't work 68 hours a week and still get to be with DD.

Fingers crossed!!

Okay as long as it is filed. Mine tried quitting his job to get out of it. They took his unemployment. And then I got his income tax return 4 years in a row to pay arrears lol
