Buying a used mattress?

What does everyone think about buying a used crib mattress? Any thoughts or have you heard not to do this? My hubby is all for it, but it concerns me a little.

How much are you looking to spend? I know this is in no way answering your question but wal mart has some I think that are like under 40 bucks.

I just wouldn't.....just in case there is like fecal matter left somewhere on it...i dunnno i'm paranoid about babies transferring things....like i won't change my baby's diaper where another has been.

I wouldn't do it, but I'm a germaphobe.

I'm using a used one but its my little sisters from a few years ago. I wouldn't use one from someone that I don't know though.

we went crib shopping yesterday at a discount store that buys used things. turns out they refuse to buy used crib mattresses. (they also get cribs shipped in from manufacturers so they're up to regulations.) so i'd be cautious if a used store wouldn't buy a used mattress you might want to consider just putting in for a new one at a store like walmart.

There are no national standards set on how they have to sanitize them, and in most of the mattresses the show bought they found feces, urine, and even LIVE BED BUGS!!!

I would if it had a plastic covering and no tears or rips....which all three of my kids' matresses came with

There are many things I will buy used. Mattresses are not one of them.

My friend gave me hers once but she coslept with hers until they were to big for the crib. If you buy one used just scrub it down with some bleach or lysol and then rinse it well afterwards. I don't see why it would be bad if you did that, since they have the waterproof covers on them. They are not like a regular bed mattress in the respect that all of the gross stuff cannot soak into a crib mattress since it has that waterproof covering.But that is just my opinion. You can also buya plastic mattress cover if it still makes you a little nervous.

Getting one from someone I knew, would be a different issue. I'd know where it came from and how much use it had had, etc. I could not buy one that I did not know where it originated from.
