Dont worry about it. Most insurances will issue a check to you and the bank the holds your mortgage so that they can monitor the repairs and make sure the money is being used correctly. Since they dont want you to not fix the house and then foreclose on a piece of crap.   So he wont get a cent.

Yeah, we were one of those people last time. Not that we wanted the money to go play, but to fix up the house. We had to borrow about 40k from my parents to do it. And then get reimbursed.
