Engagement during birth...

Did anyone start pushing before the baby's head was engaged( at -3 station) and you were still 10 cms dilated and fully effaced? Did you successfully give birth?

I did. my body was telling me to push, but baby wasn't in position. we arent sure exactly what happened, but her heart rate dropped from 180 to 60, and they had to preform an emergency c-section.

I just gave birth to my daughter last week on the 22nd and I waited for 2 hrs for her to "come down" I was at 10 cms for almost 3 hrs and finally they said lets do a good push, so I pushed once and it brought her right down! I then gave birth to my little girl in a matter of pushes because my body had time to labor on its own and I was able to bring her down with a REALLY good push

I really thought this was going to be about SO's proposing during child birth  

But no, both my babies were just about crowning when I felt the urge to push. They both came super quickly too, about 6 pushes/20 min for my first and my second was a half a push and she came flying. I did have an epidural though...

Aw that's great that everything turned out well!! When I got to 10 cms my son was still at -3 station and I pushed for 2 hours and he wouldn't come out   I had to have a c section because he was so high up and with my pushing and irregular contractions (from being induced) were not helping!

Yeah.. I wasn't even ready to push, I didn't feel the urge and I was at 10 and hey had me push for 2 hours and nothing. They could see a little bit of his head when I would push but he was not coming out. Thankfully his heart rate never dropped and he was never in distress. I had a csection but it was non emergent. I'm trying to see what other peoples experiences are! I'm hoping for a vbac next time around.

Yep. It took 45 minutes of pushing but she came out vaginally.

thats what it was like for my first, it was awful! Dont worry, it wont be like that everytime cause this time it was SO much easier...

my body was screaming at me to push. my doctor was in another surgery, so they kept telling me to wait. i tried, but after a while my body was just about bucking from the pressure. the head nurse finally told me to go ahead. as I started the doctor walked in the room. she never even crowned. i pushed for about 10 minutes. and she was our 4th and final baby lol. if it hadn't been an emergency, I might have been okay with trying again. but it was a very traumatizing situation for me and hubby, so he got a vasectomy  

DD was a -2 when I started pushing. She was out in about 15 minutes. She wouldn't descend on her own which we later found out was because she had the cord around her neck twice.

Lol I can see how you would think that.. I just reread it and that's what it sounded like to me!

You got very lucky with your deliveries!

I wish I could've waited awhile to push..I wonder why they didn't suggest that... neither of us were in any distress :-/ I'm hoping my next labor will go much better and we get that VBAC!
