re: Natural birth

posted 30th Jan
I had an epi with my first and natural my second.

I will never have a natural birth again if I can help it. I was asking for an epi over and over but they had no rooms and I delivered so quickly there was no time for the epi. I hated the experience. I didnt bond with my son until hours after his birth because I was still mentally dealing with his birth. I didnt have that problem with my first.
im not trying to scare you. My feelings arent typical. Just wanted to share a different point of view.

My birth was not "natural" because I had to have pitocen(for medical reasons) But I did not have an epidural or anything like that. So I guess what I had was more like an unmedicated birth

I ended up needed a csection after a 24 hr labor and because I can not have epidurals I had to be put all the way to sleep. My labor was a very bad experience. I don't even like to talk about it, but it is possible to have a natural birth. I am sure for most people they can have a medication free birth with out having the complections that I had.

Well it sounds like the issue is you didn't get the birth you wanted. You WANTED an epidural and didn't get one. I think it can be upsetting anytime someone doesn't get the birth experience they hoped for. But, it's not the same as someone planning for a natural birth.

There is definitely truth in that.

I think I'm different than most people, because I hated pushing (after epi) more than the contractions. Pushing sucked. The pressure was horrible. Does feeling the contractions help with the pushing?

I'd preference the hospital immediately because home is not peaceful. The dogs would annoy me sooo bad during the pain. Rubbing on me and panting, trying to luck me. No thanks lol

Yeah, I wouldn't want to birth in my own home either, but I birthed Z at a birth center and I'll be birthing #2 there too. It's a great middle ground because it's so natural birth focused and yet they are nurse midwives with emergency equipment AND they are 5 mins from the hospital.

That's why i first researched more into homebirth, they told me because of my scoliosis and injuries from spinal surgery that i'd had to have a c section under GA. I figured i'd rather birth at home than go through that smurf!

Oh totally, i wouldn't tolerate anyone bugging me during labour inc the midwife i had to tell the F off. I needed to be 'in the zone' lol. I hated pushing as it's not nice having a watermelon hang out your vagina, but doing it in water was pretty amazing. It took all the weight and made things much easier, it gives you time to loosen up naturally so you don't tear. My midwife asked the others to come look at my vag because "look, you can't even tell she's given birth" lol. It only took 19 mins of pushing. I don't think i could have a term baby on 'dry land' natural, that would suck mostly because i just cannot stand the feeling of a baby coming out my vag. I'd look into a birthing centre and a pool for sure.
