Homeschool

posted 30th Jan
What is your opinion about homeschool and why? Is it something you'd ever consider?

I think it's a good option for some kids and families but not for us. I would never homeschool my children; however, I would not be opposed to being a homeschooling teacher once certified to teach.

I was homeschooled but also attended private/public school for a few years. When DS is old enough to start school i'd love to be able to homeschool him. I could teach him so much that sitting in a room at school all day wouldn't teach him!

I am not a certified teacher, so no I would never personally homeschool as I am not qualified. I would hire a private teacher if my son wanted that.

Only with a teacher certification?

I wouldn't feel comfortable teaching without one. Elementary education is my post-transfer intended major.

We will be homeschooling. We don't like our school district . Can't afford a private school and not really happy with the ones around us.. i was home schooled for all of high school minus 4 months. my grades shot up to A's from d's and c's.
For socialization the kids will be in scouts and play at least one sport a year.
we will re-evaluate our choice each year.

I'm highly considering it for my own children. It's not for everyone but public/private school isn't for everyone either.

We are a homeschooling family, brand new to it. Our daughter will be starting kinder this fall, and we've been doing prek stuff this past year.

I think it is the right choice for some, but not all.

I wouldn't homeschool my kids because I'm not qualified. As long as the child wants to be homeschooled, the parent is qualified and they are going to social groups regularly then I see no issue with it. To each their own.

Did you know that you can get a teaching certification regardless of the 4 year degree you have? I have a friend teaching math with a criminal justice degree. Certification doesn't always equate qualification.

I would never ever do it. Im not patient enough to even consider it. Plus I like the socialization of school. A lot (not all) of home-schooled kids I've met I could always feel a difference in the way they interacted with people.

My mom never graduated school but decided to homeschool me and my siblings... I am against it if the person teaching is not qualified but if it was a certified teacher I would have no issue with it!

I've considered it, but I don't want my kids being raised in a bubble. Our plan is to send them to school and I will give them additional instruction at home.

I think once you are in a teaching program (like you and I) you realize just how much there is to know to be a teacher that people may not otherwise realize. My teaching program is extremely demanding and difficult. Like I personally won't have any education in elementary education, so I wouldn't know how to teach my young child using the most effective methods. I do think homeschooling can be a positive thing, but the parents have got to know what they are doing. If anything, I want to put my daughter in more of a non-traditional charter school personally.
