birth defects

My fiancé and I recently found out our unborn baby has cysts on his brain(which apparently are common in pregnancy) he also has a cleft lip and palate(which are also common) both together raise concerns for deeper birth defects. I got blood taken to test for trisomy 13, 18, and 21 and we are waiting on the results. I was also told I could have a test done where they take some of the amniotic fluid and test it. I was wondering if anyone has ever had this done and what their opinion is on it. Also with his cleft lip/palate I have done research and looked at the special bottles needed before and after surgery and basically I just need advice on these issues I am driving myself crazy with research and what I may and may not need so any advice is very much needed but please no negativity this whole ordeal is already over whelming enough as is. thank you in advance

Personally, I wouldn't have the amnio done, but that's just me. I don't need another reason to predispose me to miscarriage. Talk to your doctor about the risks, and weigh the benefits vs. the risks. As far as the cyst goes, my niece had the same thing in utero and it resolved on it's own. Good luck!

Praying for you and baby. I also would not have the amnio done, but that's a very personal decision. I hope everything turns out for the best for you all.

You should talk to your doctor and get all the facts before making a decision on the Amnio.

The thought of the amnio freaks me out that's why we did the blood test because it is sent to a lab in California and its about 99% accurate so I figured we would wait to see what those results show and if it is something then we can prepare ourselves and families and if it shows nothing then we pray that is correct and just plan for whatever may happen after birth. Thank you so much for your prayers it really means a lot to me. I'm just freaked out I like to know things and plan things so not knowing right now is making me crazy.

My son had these as well. Had me a nervous wreck, found out at 19weeks- until we went back 9 weeks later (longest 9 weeks of my life) and they were gone!! Usually they go away! I feel for you. Hang in there.
