My mother and I just had this argument when I took away DD's bottle
There's not that much of a difference, IMO. But I'd rather be out with DD and her drinking from a sippy instead of a bottle, since she is almost 2.

A sippy cup teaches a child to drink from a regular cup which is ultimately less damaging to the teeth, it also builds independence and helps with hand-mouth coordination.

A sippy cup is the first step to weaning from the bottle. So the sooner u start with the sippy the sooner the bottle is gone. My son was about 5 months when I started offering the sippy here and there and he did really well but he just turned a year and he uses the ones with the straws instead of the spout because he likes them better. He still gets 1 bottle in the evening an hour before bedtime but sippy cups throughout the day with every meal and snack. If u think your lo is ready for a sippy then go for it. You're his mommy and u know whats best.
