Getting out the door

posted 30th Jan
My mornings are so hectic every day, I just want to peacefully walk out the door, on time. I get my daughter out of bed an hour before we leave, so she has time to chill on the couch and watch tv/eat breakfast. After she chills, I'll ask her to get dressed and get ready to go. She doesn't move... ever. So today I finally get her dressed and it's time for shoes. She has to sing "eeny meenie" to pick her shoes, then the song ends and she's still not decided. So she sings it again, then the song ends and she still can't decide. Finally I picked for her. I've tried picking out her clothes with her the night before and she'll be excited about an outfit but when it comes time to put it on the next morning, she doesn't want to wear it and has to go pick something else out. I really struggle with trying to give her independence and trying to get out the door at a reasonable time every day. Any suggestions? How do I make our routine more clear to her? I need her to understand that there is a time to chill and then there is a time that we have to get ready and go.

What about picking out two outfits and she can only decide between those two?

How old is she? DD is 3.5 and she gets the choice between 2 outfits and a pair of shoes is already picked for the outfit. I also don't wake her up until I am ready for her to get dressed and I dress her while she is still half asleep. It makes mornings go much smoother.

I would be getting her up earlier. An hour isn't much

2 outfits is a good idea. I used to do that last semester but I was having the same problems, she wasn't ready to leave. So I figured I would give her chill time first but she still has trouble transitioning into leaving. She's 3.5 also.

Well I wake her up at 730 so I don't plan on getting her up much earlier than that or else I would be depriving her of 12 hours sleep.

Give her breakfast, get her dressed, then let her chill.
