Our military presence is not needed in about 90% of places it's at right now.
Our freedoms are not in danger and haven't been in DECADES. I really smurfing hate when people say "they're defending your right to say this blah blah blah"...no they're not. I would still have that right even if they weren't in some 3rd world country blowing smurf up.

I smurfing hate how our military is so worshiped and revered.

Anyway, that's the nature of entertainment. There is more money put into it because it's an industry in which the entire country participates in. You can't really compare entertainment industry wages to government employee wages. The money comes from two different places. You know exactly how much money you're going to make when you go into the military. And seriously so many people bitch that they don't make enough...uhm my sister and her bf are in the military and they both make MORE than enough to live on. They have a nice house, they each have a nice car, they have full benefits that don't come out of their pocket, they get BAH money etc. They're definitely not hurting for money.

I hate sports, but the two have nothing to do with each other. My husband is military, and we make more than enough... If he were to have the same job as a civi, he'd be making half as much. So it's not like he isn't paid well.

It's comparing apples to oranges.

Also, your career choice, military or not, does not mean I will respect you anymore than the next smurf. Too many people are brain-washed to think that every person in the military is a hero.

I actually agree with the idea that too many people worship the ground military personnel walk on. It's almost fanatical the way some people are about it. Our freedom wasn't challenged by the Afghans and Iraqis so I'm not sure how they're defending our freedom right now but maybe I missed something. Yeah, terrorists need to be taken care of, but we don't need hundreds of thousands of troops to do it. We definitely didn't need to allow 4,000+ people to die in the process.

Not to mention the couple hundred thousand people our "heroes" have killed over there, most of whom had nothing to do with terrorism or any criminal or political action at all.

Totally agree.

My husband put himself through college by spending 4 years in the army (before I met him) and getting the G.I. bill. I don't think there's anything heroic about him driving around in smurfhole oklahoma blowing smurf up with a grenade launcher. And he paid for his entire undergrad education, so...it's not like he got zero out of it. Some people do heroic things in the military, but this notion that everyone who signs up is a hero to be worshipped is just insane.

I definitely think it's sad that the people who do the most for society get paid fairly little in comparison.

But, sadly, people pay money to watch football. They don't pay money to watch battles.
