I don't hear many soldiers complain about making more. They do however complain about people who dumb down what they do and try to act like they understand it if they don't. I'm not saying that's you, I was just saying what I do hear complaints about.

I understand that the government doesn't pay football players. I just think that we take sports way too serious and pay way too much into them. But I'm a little bias ;) My husband doesn't complain about his job, or what he gets paid. He gets worn out, don't get me wrong. But I still think he is under paid for what he does.

Believe it or not, football players (and other famous people) do a lot for society...Most anyway...

I've grown up around military and that's what I hear. Military complaining that they should make more and that they can't raise a family on what they make.... but that's the decision they made. That annoys me. If I would have been able to join I would have served my time before starting a family.

And your right in a perfect world... they would make more. But its not a perfect world and the government doesn't pay football players

I don't watch sports, or anything like that, but to the people who do, it's apparently worth supporting players with overblown bank accounts and egos. Until they all say, "this is bullsmurf, I'm not watching any more sports until so and so takes a pay cut" That's just the way it's gonna be. I definitely think a lot of athletes are overpaid, as are reality tv stars and such.

Not everyone joins for "the love of their country". Some join to pay for school or because they just weren't good at anything else (going to school, etc.). It's a decent pay if you're not educated...
And some do it just to travel and some because they're psycho and want to blow stuff up.

They have a talent. They should get paid for that talent. If people want to pay money to see them, that's on them...

Well since I am super hormonal and am starting to take offense to this post, I think I will get out of here lol...my pregnancy hormones are getting the best of me tonight. Not too mention I am a lot more sensitive to this sort of thing when my DH is deployed.

It annoys me too.

The military doesn't pay bad. It's having ten kids, driving a $30,000 Charger, and spending beyond your means that eats up your pay and it's not the government's fault, it's yours.

I get sometimes bad things happen (illness, death, divorce, etc.) but what I'm talking about are people who are gainfully employed by the military who complain, complain, complain. They knew how much they were going to make going in and besides, they get benefits out the wazoo that add up to A LOT of money. Hell, I didn't pay a single penny for my pregnancy or my son's birth. We haven't paid any money for his health since then except a couple of tests that weren't covered because they weren't totally necessary. Until he's 26 he will have healthcare and that's worth a lot to me.

Another thing, if you think you're not making enough money, you probably shouldn't be having kids nonstop while the spouse stays at home. It seems like a lot of the people I know who complain about military pay have three plus kids when they're only bringing in [say] $3,200 a month and that just seems dumb.

Kinda OT: What grosses me out is when sports players go on strike because they're only making a couple of million   That's just offensive to me.

I don't care. The two have nothing to do with each other. It's not as if football players are taking money out of the hands of "heroes" and somehow by being an overpaid football player it's diminishing the pay someone else in a completely different profession receives.

When you choose your career, you choose it knowing roughly what you will make in it. If you don't like it, get some training and get a different career.

You know how football players could make less? If people stopped watching football on TV, purchasing merchandise, and going to games. They get paid what they do because people pay to watch them do it.

You know how the US government could afford to pay military personnel more? If there were fewer people to pay and it got rid of the ridiculous level of defence spending and downsized the military from the porker of an industry it is, to a smaller, more specialized one. If they placed less emphasis on perpetual foreign war and an absurdly large standing army, and more emphasis on smaller but better trained units of intelligence gatherers and special forces, I'll betcha the salary for the military would skyrocket.
