I totally hate sports, but the people who watch 'em are the ones making sure these dudes keep making tons of money. If people really feel they're overpaid they can always stop watching.

Umm.. I appriciate everything they do. I almost joined... medical reasons wouldn't allow me to. But if you WANT to join the military and know that your not going to make much... then don't complain. If you care about the money then find a different career. If we still used the draft system and it was mandatory... then by all means complain. I would complain for you.

some people actually join the army to serve their country..
thats what ill be doing. the pay sucks but the pride i get from serving my country is worth more than any amount of money.

its just sucks the way they do get paid..

its like a waitress getting paid more then a business owner. sorta. only thing i could come up with lol.

What's funny is that if this really were implemented and all of a sudden everyone in the military made say, 4 million dollars a year- There would be no end to the bitching from people who like to talk about government spending being far too high, etc.

And good for them/you, but that's the choice you're making knowing full well it isn't a million dollar a year job.

/shrug. I don't have anything bad to say about military folks, I just think the quote is dumb/nonsensical.

I complain for them. They provide a service that is worth far more than what they are paid. Their lives are on the line daily to protect and serve and they don't do it for anything other than the love of this country. They aren't trying to get rich doing it. Those are the ones who deserve the better pay. Not some ass hat who gets millions of $$$ for playing 15 games in a contract. Then goes on strike because they think they need more money.

Exactly. It kills me to see people sign up for a job that they know good and well doesn't pay well... then complain about it. Not just military but any job.

LOL! This is all the more reason they should get paid more. They aren't being forced to be in the military, they are choosing to do it. Our priorities as a country are so screwed up.

But they aren't being forced to take that job. When I was going through the process to sign up I wasn't doing it for the money. I knew it wasn't a good paying job. And I was okay with that. If I wanted a better paying job I wouldn't have tried to join.

It doesn't say anything about the service member wanting to be paid more. It's asking if it would make more sense for a military member to make more money than a football player. In a perfect world, yes it would

It's the comparison that bugs me, really. It's all well and good to say "military people should have higher salaries." I agree. It's just sort of silly to suggest they should make millions of dollars a year because someone else does-when that someone isn't paid by the government. A better comparison I could get behind would be that those fighting wars should be paid more than the lawmakers who send them to war.

If they were paid more then it would be more taxes coming out of your pocket... everybody's pockets. What happens when they raise taxes... people complain. The government is paying the football players. Football fans are. Its not a good comparison.

You are offered a spot on some NFL team and you choose to join the army... don't complain that you.don't make enough money. You made the choice not to.

Eh. Opinions are like smurfs.

The government doesn't pay them, what they make has zero effect on anyone in the military or otherwise. It's a stupid comparison of two things that aren't related.
