umbilical hernias

Does anybody elses little one have an umbilical hernia? If so what has your ped told you about it?

My son had one. He's 3 and it's gone now he just has an outie belly button.

my daughter did. shes 20 month now and its gone.

DD does but unless it becomes worse they aren't doing anything about it. She is 3 and a half.

They would do surgery if it got worse.

My nephew had one and it got bad so he needed surgery around 9mths old.... He is now 17 mths old and has another one, this one doesn't seem to cause him pain so they are gonna keep an eye on it for now...

Not my LO but my baby foster sister had a huge one and an older lady we knew said to tape a penny over it. The doctor said it was safe but wouldnt work that it was just an old wives tale. We tried it anyways and it went away after about a week of having a penny taped on it.

My LO has one its not horrible, but it does stick out. His pedi said it should go away by the time he is kindergarten.

My son had one, and his pediatrician said that if it didn't go away on its own by the time he was 5, he would need surgery for it. It didn't go away, so he did have the small surgery, and that was almost 5 years ago now. He is a happy, healthy 9 year old.

DD has one, hers isn't bad at all. Her pedi said it would more than likely go away on it's own, but if it wasn't bothering her then there was nothing to worry about.

it doesnt bother her and its small enough to where I can still push down on it but you can tell its there. Is it common among preemies?
