Not sure if it's really common in preemies or not, but DD was a preemie too, born at 34 weeks.

Our youngest was born with one. I had an ultrasound during pregnancy where they thought she had one but the next ultrasound they said it wasn't there anymore..but she was born with one anyway. :/ They put the nitroglycerin o her belly button twice before it really had any effect. The majority of it fell off but she's almost 5 months now and still has a little bit. She is overall healthy and hernias run in our family (her dad had 3 hernias and 4 polyps removed by age 3) Her pediatrician isn't too worried about it now that most of it is gone. Good luck!

I had twins and my son didn't have one but my daughter did, it didn't pop up until about 2 weeks after she was born (they were premie). Anyway it got big to the point it literally looked like a little alien popping out..my family in law kept trying to push me to get it fixed but no dr would do it cause being premie they just didn't want to risk it, which I was fine with they would have done it if we couldn't push it in and pop back out (went hard). She is 8 1/2 months old now and it's almost gone, still pops out when she's cranky but only a tad..she just has an outie of a belly button. I don't know what it's like where you live but here they will only do it if they have to but it's nothing to worry about unless it doesn't go back in

My DS doc said do NOT take anything over it!

My second daughter had one. It was not bad enough to warrant surgery, but their was definitely a loop of intestine bulging the umbilicus out. I remember pushing it back in and hearing a crackling gurgling sound from it.

My OB told me if I was worried I could tape a quarter to the belly button to help push the hernia in. I did this a couple of times, but didn't continue because my OB assured me it would mend itself. I did constantly push the darn thing in. I made sure to help my daughter do little ab strengthening exercises also- to fully close her abdominal wall. I'm certain this helped a lot! The issue was fully resolved by the time she was a year, and she has the most noticeable innie out of all my kids.

Mine did when born. The doc said it wasn't bad and therefore nothing would be done. By around 4-5 months it was no longer noticeable.
