Toddler not eating

posted 29th Jan
My little one is about to turn 2 next month. Lately all she does at mealtime is throw her food on the ground and she seems very disinterested. I worry she's not getting enough nutrition.   She has thinned out a LOT over the last few months, although she was eating plenty up until this last week. Is it just the age?

Do I :

A) Give her unhealthier choice that I know she will eat (ones that she gets as a treat usually.. bites of pizza, cookie, etc)

or

B) get a supplement of some sort and keep giving her the foods we have been attempting to give her?

Phase. Keep offering her healthy choices at meal times. This happens often with them at this point. Keep healthy choices at snack time as well. They don't have the capacity to starve themselves. They will eat when hungry.

I'd definitely supplement and continue offering "real" food...

Try PedaiSure. Or foods that have healthy fats in them. Avocados, yogurt.

Have you tried pediasure? Our pedi reccomended it be because DD is small, and really doesn't like to eat much of anything. DD loves them.

My kids have horrible diets so they get multiple vitamins and I give them Pediasure with breakfast.

Okay thank you guys. I will definitely just keep trying and offering her foods you suggested. I may pick up some pedia sure as well. Do you think she'll like the taste?

This, my DD is similar at the minute, we just keep going we all eat together and once she stops eating i ask if she is done then we have a yoghurt or fruit but I dont make a big deal of it, she eats loads some days and hardly anything others x

As for thinning out, she probably grew as well. It is pretty normal at this stage. Don't stress. All three of mine have done this and my 2 1/2 yr old is still at it. I do give a little pedisure in his sippy. Careful not to give too much. It can cause diarhea. It did for one of my daughters. Otherwise, remember she will not starve herself. She litterally doesn't have the capacity to do so. This is all info that my pedi said to me when I freaked out about my daughter.

My DD will be two in April. When she's growing she hardly eats. It's a few days of refusing most foods. Then she's right back to her normal eating self. This kidll eat ANYTHING.. As long as she's not growing. I offer her food and if she doesn't eat she doesn't eat I know she will when she's ready. I never used pedi assure I use carnation instant breakfast to get some food in her.

Now DS who's 4 is a TERRIBLE eater he WILL starve himself and be miserable rather then eat. He usually won't even eat cookie or ice cream if he doesn't wanna eat so I give him whatever hell eat sometimes just because he NEEDS TO EAT!

I think it depends on the kid, their history and patterns you can identify.

See, I thought that if they were growing, they'd eat everything in sight! LOL

At 4 is is a "control" issue. It is the only thing they can control over you. Start acting like you don't care and that it doesn't bother you. Ignore the game and it will start to cease.
