I need some ideas for books and such for my 4 year old? I'm wanting to homeschooling so were going to do a trail between now and registration time. Any tips or advice?

I am planning on homeschooling too though my oldest is barely turning two this weekend. For 4, I wouldn't bother with buying anything except maybe easy reading books. Teach letters(and sounds), shapes, colors, counting and numbers. Then from there anything else you feel like teaching. Animals, higher numbers (past 10 basically), reading...

I actually have a blog on which my friend and I are doing, what we're calling, a 26 week alphabet series. Its kind of my practice run at homeschooling. My son is 3 and we're working on letter tracing, and concepts associated with letters….like A for Alphabet, B for Books, and C for Colors and so on. So each week we work on a different letter, and in junction with that, we work on the alphabet at a glance, or work on color identification and mixing, etc.

you can come follow and do your own version

We homeschool have for 3 years now my oldest is in the middle of 1st grade now. We used the curriculum Weaver Interlock for Pre-K and LOVED IT! It is a Christian based program, is 3 days a week and is very hands on. Lots of fun! =0) http://www.aophomeschooling.com/product/win01
If your not looking for something that has Bible included for pre-K I would just reccomand getting a few workbooks from pretty much any store, to teach letters, numbers, abcs, read books about simple science, and community helpers. Calendar time and puzzles are great, we did weather time as well in pre-k.

Y'all are awesome. I don't want to start a curriculum yet I want to see how it goes first before investing the money. He isnt the best listener for me so if it doesn't work out ill send him to school in the fall. If it does work out we will homeschooling. My husband is worried about socialization but I am trying to tell him there are other ways to socialize kids. So its just going to be a trial thing. I would love to have him at home all the time though. So cross your fingers. I'm going to bookmark all the blogs!!!

if you go to the blog, and follow on the side, you'll get notifications of updates - playathomemom is a great one to follow. I'm not sure if its .com or .blogspot, so you'd have to google.

But that's what my blog is about - just a trial run to see if O learns from me period….so far he's on the fence. He's reluctant to see me as his mom AND teacher…but he's actually JUST starting to come around, and we're in the third week of our little series. He's starting to cooperate more with the activities, and he seems to suddenly be taking in a lot more of the activities and information we're working on.

It may work better for him to be home-schooled if he doesn't listen well. That will eliminate him getting trouble at school for not listening.

We are planning on home schooling for a few different reasons but I know if either one of my kid's had behavior issues that would give me more of a push to do so that way they can have more individual attention unlike a class with 25 other students to one teacher. . There are plenty of ways to socialize, find co-ops around you or even just other home-school groups

my son has developmental delays, and I'm worried about bullying, until his verbal and social skills catch up to his peers. So I really am hoping to homeschool through 1st or 2nd grade, until he can better communicate.

My oldest will be 2 on Sunday so I have a while but so far everything is on track with him but he still screams more often than not to communicate with us lol. Just have to wait and see. We just think it is a better option because we are not happy at all with the school system's right now. I have talked to my grandpa about it since he was a public school teacher for 20 years or so and he agrees with our stance on home-schooling. It may just be California but the public schools are crazy 30+ kids in a class in elementary school. How are they supposed to learn? We are planning on moving to Nevada if things keep working out for us,I haven't looked into their school systems yet but we will allow our kids the choice if they want to go to school instead of home-school no matter where we live. You just have to figure out what is best for your kids and your family. Home-schooling is not for everyone and I know that but I also know that it works better for some kids than others because they can get the attention they need, or they can learn more than what is taught in schools because that is what they are interested in.

He listens better to other people than to me lol. So.irk. I'm trying to get more structure and more activities and that seems to be helping. My middle son will be 3 in March and he is a little behind developmently and I see homeschooling as the only option for him I'm just going to throw him in there with my 4 year old . I'm pretty excited! And hoping things work out!!
