my gross Cravings?

posted 29th Jan
Well I'm 28 weeks and my whole pregnancy I've been addicted to ranch.. Which i normally don't even eat/use unless its on salad. Now i have these weird cravings.. First one is i love chopped up lettuce , mustard , and original pringles. The second is steamed broccoli with cheese , mustard , ranch , and sourcream. I know it may sound smurfing gross but it's what I like.lol. I can't help it.. When I think about it it sounds weird as hell. but hey , It's what I like...But i want to know other mommies weird cravings ????????? ...Just curious.lol

There is nothing "gross" worthy about those. At least you aren't eating dirt or sucking on rocks. No, I didn't do that. Another momma on here did

It's most common among impoverished African American pregnant ladies. It's supposedly an evolutionary tactic to get vitamins and minerals.

Since when? My OB said that anyone can get Pica, and that it's more common during pregnancy, especially with women who experience severe morning sickness.

My doctor gave me a list of all the things that were considered Pica, so that I could keep an eye on my cravings, since I had some really really bad ones that I wasn't supposed to eat at ALL, such as raw meat, ice to gnaw on, I wasn't thirsty but I wanted to crunch the ice, and I wanted to chew dry pasta and rice. I had to curb almost ALL of those, because they could make me very sick. THOSE were gross. Pringles and lettuce? That's a cakewalk, lmao.

I had a thing for mixing m&m's and shredded mozzarella cheese. Sobering about cheese, salt, and chocolate together makes my belly happy. Odd thing, that was with my first pregnancy and I just kind of stuck with it haha.

I said MOST COMMON, not to be confused with "EXCLUSIVE TO". And the idea that women with severe n/v would be susceptible to Pica sort of supports the nutritional deficiency theory anyhow.

But that means it's common among women who are not getting the nutrients they need, not any particular race or poverty level... I've just never heard of Pica being linked to any race. Where did you hear that from, I'm actually really curious.

My mother baby books from OB rotation in nursing school. Let me get home, to a computer and ill give ya some sources. Otherwise, google it.

I did google it, nothing says it's linked more to Impoverished African Americans, at least nothing that I've found.

And those criteria aren't mutually exclusive. They can have 1, 2 or NONE of risk factors.

I think I'll just wait until you can provide more information when you get home, because like I said I haven't seen anything linking Pica to impoverished African Americans.

This came from a larger presentation, found it on the first page of results

And while this article focuses on Mexican ladies, there is an excerpt where it states black women are 4 times more prone to pica than Caucasians.

It is possible that we really didn't focus on the Latino factor in my nursing school because it is largely non-existent. We have a LOT of white people and some African Americans but that's about it.

I'm still at Kroger. I can't quit checkin my phone though, lol, so it'll be a bit before i make it home.
