re: question about neutering a cat

Quoting kthx.:" Oh my gosh! So cute! Did they pass away or did you have to give them away? Gizzy is constantly cuddled up by me. Always. Like now... Excuse my haggard look, just got off work not long ago  "

We ended up taking them to my grandmas to live outside. They went in and out all the time so it wasnt a big deal. They loved it out there

Thanks for your answers everyone. :]

@Kthx: Have you really looked into/researched declawing? It's reeeaaaaally not recommended any more. Please really research it before doing it if you haven't already. If you have..well he's your kitty so you can do as you please.

You are telling me that not giving pain meds is inhumane but you are going to declaw your cat and that's not inhumane? Basically the vet would be amputating the last joint of your cats toes. How would you like your fingers cut off? Now that's inhumane! This causes way more behavior problem then it prevents. Do some research. Get some cardboard scratchers. Try nailcaps. Cut your cat's nails on a regular basis. Get him neutered. Declawing is NOT that answer. It is sad when pet owners are so misinformed.

Yes. And in order for him to not be taken to a shelter, it has to be done.

I've done it all besides neutering. Lol. Don't tell me I'm not misinformed, I know what they do. And in order for him to stay living in a loving home, versus a cage in an animal shelter and eventually euthanized, he has to get declawed. I'm making the right decision.

Scratching posts/toys etc - Tried it.
Kitty Caps - tried it
Trimming nails - tried it
spray bottle - tried it
clapping or making loud noises to scare him from doing it - tried it.

Why would he have to go to a shelter? He would only have to if you took him...I dunno, I've read they can turn into a very different cat after the procedure. But its your kitty so you decide. I was going to with my cat but I just keep up with his nail trimming after I read it wasn't suggested by even most vets nowadays. I am wondering how the nail caps didn't work for you though, most people give them great reviews.

Because we can't keep him with him still clawing the way he is. So he'd be going to the shelter if we didn't get him declawed.

He bit the kitty caps off. They were awesome for the first like 30 minutes, and then he started chewing them off. I was re-gluing new ones on daily, it was a pain in the ass. So, those didn't work.

Hmm you have one stubborn kitty lol. And clipping his nails often doesn't work either? My cats nails grow like crazy. He needs them clipped right now but I lost the clippers.

He won't stay still long enough for me to do it. He draws blood from me when I try

Can anyone tell me if they are supposed to give those to you after your cat gets fixed? Yes. How much did they cost? $10 only got pain killers. Do they keep the cat over night or what? No.
Also, how long until your cat healed? 2 weeks. What were they like while healing? The same as before, she just couldn't jump (vet orders)
No antibiotics though. Same with my male puppy.

Why can't you post him on CL? People are always looking for a new pet.
