Quoting kthx.:" That's just crazy to me. Every clinic I've talked to says they will prescribe pain killers, as well as antibiotics. Did you go to a shelter/clinic or a vets office?"I think it is pretty apparently that you are the odd one out when it comes to having pain killers and antibiotics neuters. Maybe they are just trying to make more money off of you. It's seriously NOT common.
Quoting Blythe.:" why would they need antibiotics if there is no infection?"
Quoting RonniG:" I think it is pretty apparently that you are the odd one out when it comes to having pain killers and ... [snip!] ... pain killers and antibiotics neuters. Maybe they are just trying to make more money off of you. It's seriously NOT common."

Quoting kthx.:" Even the low-cost shelters say this So no, they aren't trying to make more money. I've talked/looked up both vet clinics and shelters, and they all prescribe pain killers and antibiotics."
Quoting Patti.:" An actual vets office"
Quoting kthx.:" The places I've talked to, they keep him overnight. But I guess that's because they take extra care ... [snip!] ... a low-cost neuter/spay thing going on, and it said to drop the cat off at 7:30-8am, and pick them up the next day by 10am."
Quoting Kaibutsu:" If it is that fast, I shouldn't have to wait long to pick him up them? I have to drive kind of far away ... [snip!] ... the tripp (our car sucks, our good one is in the shop)..so we were just going to try to hang around until we could pick him up."
Quoting kthx.:" Weird. Either way, I'm getting the pain killers and antibiotics. Even if he won't be in much pain, I ... [snip!] ... tell me... other than biting me, and he does that anyways... so I can't really differentiate normal behavior from pain "
Quoting Patti.:" My cat stayed over night too. They hated me for a few hours after I picked them up the next day"
Quoting Patti.:" He would be vocal about it if he was in pain. "
Quoting kthx.:" No antibiotics, either?! What the hell kind of clinic do you work at?! "ok not that you need my resume but I worked at one clinic in AZ and 2 here in CA one of them is a higher end clinic. A male cat only need antibiotic if he is licking at the surgery sight. If a cat is vocalizing pain then we will provide pain meds, but in 99% of cases a male cat will heal with no problems. A female cat on the other hand has is going to go home with antibiotics and pain medications because it is a more invasive surgery. In most clinics male neuters don't even get sutures anymore.
Quoting kthx.:" I'm gonna have to do it when I'll have a day off (like for the next day when I bring him home). One ... [snip!] ... why declawing is a must now)... but he kept trying to use his claws to climb up the couch, and just fell off Poor thing."
