Baby constipation?

posted 29th Jan
My son hasn't pooped since the day before yesterday. He usually has 2 dirty diapers a day.

I changed his diaper last night and noticed a little bit of watery poop soaked in his diaper, but that's it. His diet hasn't changed and he's been eating normal.

What can I do or give him?

Is he bf or ff? If he is bf it's perfectly normal to go a days between poops.

Formula-fed.

How old is he? A little prune juice or prune baby food could work. Also a tiny bit of karo syrup in a bottle can help.

Is his tummy hard or is he in pain? You can try warm bath or tummy massage.

you could try pear juice diluted, 1 oz of pear juice and 1 oz of water. That's what my pedi had me do because LO hadn't pooped in 3 days!! I was freaking out because he's BF and FF and had multiple BM's a day. And then boom it changed to once or twice every other day.

He's 7 weeks. I was considering diluted apple juice. He doesn't seem to be in pain, though.

If he's not uncomfortable then he's ok. Is his tummy hard?

If he isnt in pain and his tummy isnt hard then he isnt constipated. His habits could just be changing. I would just a warm bath and some tummy massage to get things moving.

I talked to my pedi about this same issue, she says it isn't constipated unless it is more than 5 days. Just try to comfort him and be prepared for a massive poop that may leak through his diaper. She didn't say the last part, that's from my personal experience.

what kind of formula? dd gets constipated now and then since birth with out changing her diet and shes formula fed. poor thing finally pooped today after 3 days too and filled 3 diapers! im not sure about a 7 week old, i would call your pedi. did you try taking a temp to stimulate her? i did that often with dd and it works well. you dont actually take her temp but usually by the time the timer goes off on the thermometer, shes pooping. a warm bath helps too. juice can give them super bad gas. we have dd on 4 oz a day of prune juice but shes 6 months.

Yes, it was. I woke him up, and massaged his tummy, and did some pedaling with his legs and maybe...15 minutes later, he pooped!

Oh ok, at that age I'd ask your Pedi before giving him anything. I see that he finally pooped, yay! Sometimes the tummy works and leg movements help. They didn't help my daughter much though.

I'm guessing he just needed some help getting it out. He's filled 3 diapers so far!   I'm hoping that was the last of it....lol
