Xanax

Well, I have had anxiety and panic attacks since I was a teenager. I know these stem from things that happened in my childhood. It was causing problems in my marriage because I would have an anxiety attack almost every time my DH would leave the house. The thoughts that would race through my head were always really bad. I would think he was cheating or that he would get in a car wreck and die. It was awful. When he would leave the house I would feel the need to text him every 5 minutes just to see what he was doing and to make sure he was ok. It was driving him crazy. I don't blame him for being irritated at all, hell, I was irritated with myself. After the anxiety passed I would feel stupid and embarrassed.
Anyways, that was like a mini rant I guess, my question is, does anyone else here take xanax? My Doctor prescribed me xanax yesterday to deal with the panic attacks and anxiety until my Psychiatrist appointment on Feb 18th. He prescribed 1mg two times a day. Is that a high dose? What kind of effects can I expect from it? Does it make you too sleepy to function? I have a disabled child that needs constant care, I can't afford to be too sedated to take care of him.

That's a pretty small dose, but if you're nervous, try taking half and make sure it doesn't make you too sleepy?

It never made me sleepy, though.

Your dose is about average. I was only prescribed .25mg but was told to double when needed

I always have a prescription on hand for when I need them...mine are only .25 mg and they def take the edge off when I'm freaking out. I don't get sleepy just extremely calm

I've been prescribed xanax since i was 17 for panic attacks. I'm on 0.5MG 3 times a day. It doesn't make me sleepy at all.

1mg is high for someone that's never taken it. Usually they start you out on the lowest dose.

Yeah, that's true.

I always forget my body chemistry doesn't respond well to small doses while most people do. haha

Wow, seems like you all are on way smaller doses. I have decided to cut mine in half. They are scored tablets so I assume that is safe to do. Thanks ladies for all the help.

Yes, absolutely safe.
