Pickiest eater ever.

posted 29th Jan
LO is 16 months and has been a picky ass eater since she started table foods. I get so jealous hearing friends talk about how their 11 month old ate a full meal and it's a battle with my little girl to get her to eat HALF a meal. We use a "portion size" plate WIC gave me when she was a newborn and we try to use it every meal to make sure I'm not giving too much.

But, she'll literally only eat green beans, BACON BACON BACON, ravioli with meatballs, apples & bananas. I've tried so many other recipes and food. Hot dogs, potatos, corn, carrots, hamburger, sausage, eggs. She won't have it.

Did anyone else have problems at this age? Like I know she's not gunna shrivel away cuz she eats 3 meals a day I just feel like it should be more?

Toddlers eat as much as they need. If she's drinking a lot of milk or juice and getting her calories from that, she is not going to eat a lot of food.

And like adults, toddlers all have their own caloric requirement. Honestly, we could all use a few tips on eating habits from toddlers.

I feel your pain. My friends kids eat whatever she puts in front of them. My son wont try new things, and eats pretty much the same few things all the time.   With my baby girl...im going to put food in front of her and if she doesnt eat she can be hungry because i am not going to have another picky eater!!

My son was like that for years. Drove me freaking insane. He's 4 1/2 now and I think it changed at 4. He became more interested in food, and now he's much better at trying new things. Here is also something I noticed-- my husband is equally as picky. I think that my son sensed that a little and was kinda mimicking him in a way. When I had a conversation with my husband about his eating habits being an example for LO's and he got better about it, is when I started noticing a difference. I don't know for a fact if they are related, but it seems like something worth a bit of weight. Are you or your SO or anyone close to your daughter super picky?

When DS was 16 months he refused everything except milk and baby jars. So he had your kid beat lol. But now he's 3 1/2 and he'll eat a fair amount. He's still picky but it's much better. Just keep offering healthy food and snacks and she'll eat them when she's ready. Cut the bacon and don't get her started on chicken nuggets and mac and cheese. That's worse than her not eating at all.

No, that's why it drives us insane. Me and SO are the least picky eaters. We try and make something different every night. More so now to try and find a couple recipes Zo really likes but to no avail so far. My youngest brother just turned 10 in December and he's very, very picky but he only sees her once a week or so. I guess it's just something we'll have to work with. My only concern is keeping her weight up. We got lectured at the 15 month well visit that at 31 inches and 22 1/2 pounds she was a little "underweight" for her age so now I'm all nervous. :/

Ew, we definitely don't do chicken nuggets unless they homemade chicken tenders. I'll be damned if my kid ingests that fast food bull! lol. We've made homemade mac and cheese a couple times and she ate it but not enough to make it weekly. The only real meal she'll chow down on is pot roast which is cool with me cuz there's meat and veggies in it!   I'm definitely glad to hear it seems the pickiness(sp?) fades after a while!

Yes. She HATES both, especially oatmeal. I've made it four times and each time she tries it, spits it out, then looks at me like I'm the craziest mother ever for making her that. Haha. It usually ends up knocked on the ground for me to pick up.

Yeah it does, just hang in there. Like I said DS only ate baby food until he was like, 2. My friend told me I was nuts since her daughter at the same age was eating pizza, chicken nuggets, and Pepsi. I was like.....yeah, I'll stick with the jars. Thanks.

My son is super small. Try not to stress about it. She will eat when she's hungry, I promise. Keep reintroducing the things she doesn't like because taste buds constantly change. It could just be a phase.

Oh I got that lecture too lol. Everyone thought DS was so much younger than he was because he was so small. Lo and behold he had a super growth spurt around 3 and now he's actually a little on the bigger side.

Christopher is about to be 3 and still doesn't eat much unless it's pizza, ramen noodles, chicken, or macaroni. He'll eat oranges, apples, or grapes as far as fruit goes. And won't touch veggies. I just give him what he'll eat. He'll outgrow it eventually or get sick of those items...whichever comes first.
