how can he be stopped?

posted 29th Jan
Has anyone got advice on how to stop my friends 4 yearr old son licking his lips/around his mouth?, Its causing a horrible mark and looks awful, the doctor says its eczema caused from the licking but he won't stop, she has put E45 cream on just to try help it go away and he just ends up wiping it off so she thinks he would do same if she used a funny/bad tasting cream as a deterant, is there anything else she can do

Keep putting the cream on it. I would try the bad tasting method too. LOL

Keep putting it on.

You care more than he does. It's not a big deal

He is 4, he is big enough to understand that when his mom puts the cream he needs to leave it on. It may take some time to get used to it but at some point, if he kept wiping it off, he would be in trouble.

i have suggested maybe turning it into a game, like she puts it on him and her and tell him lets see who can keep it on the longest, the winner gets a treat

A girl I went to school with was like that until high school. Her face around her lips always looked like she drank Hawaiian punch and it was stained or something. But she could NOT stop licking her lips.

Rub something awful tasting on that'll stay until washed with soap...

I put Neosporin on my son's lip right before bed. It seems to work for him because he's not up and moving around and trying to wipe it off and he can't irritate his lip enough in one day to make it go back to the way it was the day before so it's getting better every day.

But really she just needs to keep reapplying it.
