Bleeding after sex ...35 weeks.

I experienced bleeding during/after intercourse Friday night (It was bright red and a heavy "period-like" flow). We called the doctor on call since it was around 3am, she told us to go ahead and go to the hospital. Long story short, did an ultrasound and baby was fine, but did not want to check my cervix. Went home and bleeding has since stopped but have had some pain & braxton hicks. My question is.......if this has happened to you, did it have any effect on when baby came? I have an appt Weds so I guess they will tell me more then, but I would like him to stay in for at least a few more weeks. It was pretty scary since it was quite a bit of blood (dripping blood, not just when I was wiping). Any feedback is appreciated! : )
