Has anyone done acupuncture to induce or before labor?

posted 28th Jan
Im really looking into doing this but is it just to induce labor or can it be used as subsitute for a epidural? I really dont want a epidural or a c section. I know its a long way away but just want to be fully educated.

My lady only does the inducing stuff at 39 weeks but likes to see you a few times before then to try to figure out what will work best for you.

I do the accupressure on women, haven't heard of anyone do the acupuncture. The accupressure only works if your body is ready, if it's not ready, you just pee TONS lol Most of the women I do it on have the baby within 48 hours.

I had acupuncture done with my last pregnancy, I was hooked up to the machine that checks for contractions for an hour before hand and wasn't having any. Half an hour after having the needles put in I was having regular contractions. But I do believe that it will only work if your body is ready to go into labour. They put two needles in my ankles (on the inner side), one in each of my hand in the fleshy part between the thumb and index finger and two in my shoulders on either side of my neck. Any other questions just fire away

I was only in labour for 5 hrs all up but it was only the last 1/2 hrs that was really unbearable, I ended up having a water birth and found that to be an amazing pain relief. I think the good thing about trying these kinds of things is that theres not much that can go wrong with it. And also if it doesn't work then it wont effect any other plans that you may have in your birth plan.

I would really love to have a water birth but my insurance wont cover anything other than the traditional birth which really sucks. I just dont want to have a epidural because of the complications it can cause and with my luck itd happen. And I also dont want a c section but im pretty small so im hoping I dont have to and the doctor doesnt push it. This is my second pregnancy and will be my first birth. ( we got pregnant and shortly after lost our baby on October 1st then the next month found out we were pregnant again!) If anything id just like to experience a vaginal birth the way I want it.

my insurance doesn't cover it either (water birth). well... maybe it does, but the hospitals around here don't allow it. so I'm paying out of pocket for a home water birth! only 2,000$ so not bad IMO.

just because you're small does NOT mean you are at greater risk for a c-section. I know a lot of doctors will say otherwise though   It's ultimately your decision how you want your birth to go though. Just don't give in to any pressure.

I'm only a small lady, well short more than small lol. But I have naturally delivered all my children. My midwife always says the best thing you can do to help your self deliver is to get as much rest in early labor as you can so you have enough energy to get through the hard part.
On a side note I am amazed that you guys have to have insurance and stuff while pregnant and to labour our government in little old New Zealand pays for everything from getting the test to your four days in the birthing unit up intill 6 weeks after birth. And it's quite hard to find doctors here who deliver its a mainly midwife or specialist

Im jealous! Haha! Id love to have a water birth! But nobody around here does it!

Well, the doctors around here really push it if your smaller. Where I live they shut down the delivery part of the hospital so we have to drive 30 minutes away and ive heard by a lot of people they are pushy especially if your younger which i am. (Ill be 19 in a few months)
