re: What do you think of these?

I actually met a lady who handcuffed her children together if they were arguing with each other and she didn't let them off the handcuffs until she determined they were getting along.

My kid doesn't like to sit for more than...2 minutes doing this kind of stuff. At least not at home. He will when he's at school or at speech therapy, but not with me. Soo, hopefully those letters make him realize who's boss around here!

lol then this should be a good alternative for our boys. Neither will want to write the alphabet, correctly, each time they do wrong. I'm going for it.

Have you ladies read the comments under the article?

I love this comment right here:

"I'm a grandmother and I have seen both, disrespectful children and disrespectful parents who teach this. These things I have learned in life: treat your kids with respect, but at the same time, teach them how to respect others. Children aren't born knowing how to do these things, they learn from their environment. If they see you, the parent being unkind, saying a few choice words to people, they will do the same. These tips do not show disrespect. When these rules are implemented for the right reasons, they teach them "for every action, there is a reaction". It only makes them better human beings, which we are lacking in nowadays.

Tips I learned from a grandmother when I was a young mother......

1) when they are screaming and crying, whisper. They have to stop crying to hear what you are saying.

2) Tell them their mind is for thinking ANYTHING they want to think at the moment. Their mouth is for filtering before their tongue says hurtful things. So think, filter, speak. When I would see a look on my son and daughters faces, I would know they were wanting to say something, so the code words were "think, filter, speak". Whispered to them.

3) always ask them this question ," would you wanted to be treated that way?" If the are unkind or rude to someone. Have them to really think about it before they answer.

As far as chores and helping around the house, doors off of hinges, I say AMEN!! We have too many lazy kids nowadays who just expect hand outs, thinking you owe them something because you gave birth to them. They, at certain ages, have a responsibility to society too. Teach them early. You will not raise bullies, instead children who have respect for others and know how to work. Besides, they have to have stories to tell their children about how TOUGH you, the parents, were on them!!"

No, I didn't read the comments. I love that as well! The debates nowadays are all about spanking or anti-spanking, rather than...how can I get THROUGH to my kid. I'll be the first to admit that I've been getting frustrated very easily these days, so I need these tips.

I too am guilty of the same thing. The comments are rather interesting. I haven't gotten to far into reading them, but I guess there are some people on there saying how some of those consequences are "Abusive"   It's not a conversation I am willing to get involved in, but that grandmother made some amazing points.

They are only abusive in the minds of people who have no sense of hard work, respect for themselves and others, and manners. Those people think that any consequence is abusive.

I don't know. I think they are well within the boundaries of appropriate consequences and I think they teach a plethera (sp) of life skills.
