Quoting BG Secrets:" This is so messed up. (((((( How do the blood tests work? I thought they detect the herpes anitbody."
The blood test is specific for hsv and hsv2. If they test for both that is. hsv1 is mostly oral herpes, and 75% of the population will test positive for that because of regular cold sores.. no biggie. hsv2 is the genital herpes. A LARGE population of the US tests positive for hsv2 without ever having any symptoms. It's possible to be a "carrier" of it without knowing or having any outbreaks. Most Gynos don't view the Herpes blood test as necessary during STD screening unless you're showing obvious symptoms, so Herpes is spread often and easily without people even knowing.
I'd still see a doctor. My friend had an outbreak. One sore on her vag. Looked like an ingrown sore. She also popped it thinking it was such. It wasn't. She's never had another outbreak. It shows you that herpes is often overlooked as ingrown hairs or irritation.
And having herpes isn't the end of the world either. There's only a 4% chance of a woman spreading it to a man during each moment of intercourse.
