Car seat question!

Would an airport allow you to check a newly purchased car seat in it's original packaging?

I dont see why not. But I have a horror story checking a carseat so I don't advise it

What is the story? This would be a back up seat as I don't want to check DD's actual seat.

Yes. We checked a brand new Pack n Play [for free]. We weren't even travelling with a baby, I was obviously pregnant though.

Well first of all nobody ever told me back then that they can be damaged by checking them. Second, they didn't send my seat on the same flight and I had no car seat for dd to leave the airport in. We had to borrow a freakin death trap from the airport to get to Walmart to buy a new seat. I was livid.

I was told checking it in the packaging is safer. Our last resort is we might have it shipped to the store near the airport and have DH drive to pick it up than come back and get me and DD.

I checked DD's carseat at the gate. I watched them in the window throw it on the ground and throw her stroller on top. You know that show about the crazy people at the airport?- I should've been on it. Seriously. Sooooo angry and I refused to use that carseat anymore. We got a check for 1/2 the price of a new carseat and spoke with some head hancho.

Yeah I'd assume it's better in the package. How will u get it back? Just repack it?

I wouldn't check a car seat. Checking a car seat is basically considering it crashed.
You should purchase LO a seat.

Just youtube videos of how airline loaders treat luggage.
A box would definitely cut down on some impact, but most car seats don't come with any other sort of reinforcement in the box, just the seat, wrapped in plastic, in the box.

How do we know they're safe when they're being shipped to the store than?

Yeah, it would just be annoying to have DH drive to the store pick it up and drive back for us, especially since this is only the second time in my life I've ever flown so being alone at an airport with DD would be kind of nerve wracking.
