I hate when this happens

posted 28th Jan
So I was talking to my brother's girlfriend today about a playdate. When we could get all the girls together and my kids(my brother has a boy with his girlfriend and a girl with his ex wife, and they have a friend who has a little girl as well), and we settled on February 10th to take the kids to the inflatable play place.

Then DH calls and says that his boss has already paid $75 per ticket for this "cocktail attire" banquet, that his employees and their wives are expected to attend.

There are only 2 wives out of the 4 employees and that's me and another girl, and she's already gotten out of it, but my ticket is paid for.

Which means I barely have any time to find a dress that is appropriate for me to wear(I dress very modestly and like long formal dresses, it's just not the style these days), I won't even have time to make one. And I have to cancel my playdate as they're on the same day..

The worst part? The other little girl, is my son's bestest girlfriend and she's moving 6 hours away at the end of this month.

This SUCKS.

Anyone know where I can get a good modest dress for cheap? I don't even think I have 100 for this. And I can't fit into anything because I'm still 10lbs heavier than before I had my son.

Sounds silly, but I would check out sears. I got a long formal, very pretty dress there foe $80 once.

I was actually just thinking that. It's probably right around winter formal time for schools, or possibly just passed and I think I could find something decent and formal and modest at JcPenneys or Sears.

I'm looking online right now.

I'm looking online and I found nothing at sears. I need something high chested and at least goes past the knees. So I'm looking online at jcpenneys. I'll probably look at macy's too.

The nearest store for this kind of stuff affordable, like a Ross, is in Vancouver, 30 minutes away and I don't plan on going there this week until Sunday. So I want to do all the online shopping I can before I start really going to town.

See I have no excuse NOT to go. Because I'm a SAHM with no job outside the home they know that I don't have anything going on.

Plus if I go, it will look better for my husband that his family is supportive of his role in the company, because he's trying to really "one up" everyone so he can get a raise and possibly promotion into more leadership in the company.

Since it's a small business, and he's known this guy forever and he helped this guy start his business about 6 years ago.

You might also try David's Bridal online. My sister found a really nice gown for my wedding & it was discounted to $60! She got it quickly as well.

Good luck!

Yeah I was thinking there, and they have one in Clackamas which is an hour from here, but still within reason.

I guess I'm not getting out of it because I am a SAHM. The other wife got out of it because she booked this concert 3 months ago. So he hadn't already paid for her ticket.

I saw the dresses you posted in the other thread (the 50's style ones) --- I really liked the black one

I just got to look around. DH is going to clarify what the attire is before we buy something.

He got the brochure from his boss. Apparently his boss is a sponsor. It's a Jewish Fundraising Banquet, and since his boss is Jewish, and has donated enough to get his company logo in the brochure. That's why we have to go.

Good times...I know. I've never been to one of these functions before.

I have severe anxiety and a minor case of OCD, I flipped out completely last night.

I don't handle things being thrown on me at all.
