Can I START BFing at 3 months? And how?

posted 28th Jan
So my LO had an allergy to milk that made her cry constantly, poop excessively, ad she was covered with hexima   but I have been giving her some stored breastmilk and she seems okay. I want to nurse her, but she's not taking it real well, I think because I'm nearly dry. But I'm gonna pump more and drink that tea. Do you think it could work? Any success stories??

Pumping and pumping and pumping. If you can get her to latch on it would be even better. And yes fenugreek will help.

It is absolutely possible to relactate.

Not to give your hopes up, but that's not likely. I'd try pumping, but don't hurt yourself.

It is possible. Contact a lactation consultant, for sure. Do you have a BFing support group (like LLL) in your area?

Mothers Milk Tea?

There's also fenugeek (I think you're supposed to take with blessed thistle), real oatmeal, and medication (not sure about meds... Don't know much about them).

If she's frustrated with low supply, maybe a SNS? (It's like tubing so the baby can get formula while at the breast.)

Good luck mama!

Also, I think dr. Sears had a book on stimulating lactation without pregnancy. I don't I dont know what it's called but I believe its intended for adoptive mothers who want to Breastfeed. It may not be dr. Sears but I know there are definitely books that would be helpful to you.

besides the supplements, and SNS if you choose that...

lots of naked, quiet time. skin to skin contact. Keep a bottle on hand so she doesn't get fussy and frustrated and let her comfort nurse. Do this as much as possible.

Pump after wards. Pump often. I wouldn't pump too close to a feeding time (say, within 45 minutes) to give your body a chance to get a stimulation break and build up more milk.

If you want, ask any support groups, LCs, online groups, whatever about donated milk.

Above all... don't be too hard on yourself whatever the outcome is. You are providing something no one else can simply by being her mama. No one can take your place.
