Severe ADHD 3 year old-HELP

posted 28th Jan
From the time Alyssah got off the bus from school she has done nothing but be terrible, I'm so over her bad behavior. I'm getting SO close to taking away everything from her & leaving her in a room with nothing but her bed. I get absolutely NO help from her father to try to correct this bad behavior, I'm at my wits end. Something has got to GIVE & very SOON! Any tips PLEASE??

I'm sorry... just sounds like a toddler to me :/ and is she diagnosed adhd? I have always been told it can't be diagnosed that early. I'm just saying that because my son has it as well, but he wasn't tested and diagnosed until he was 5. he's 8 now, and we still have many issues, but he understands it better now and works with me.

Was she diagnosed with ADHD?
ETA: maybe talk to the pediatrician and see if they have some recommendations or referrals to parenting support resources or something that could be helpful in managing a child's difficult behavior.

Are you still with DD's father? If so, I'd have a sit down and formulate a plan and discuss the issues. Even if you don't live together I still would sit down. He needs to realize that the two of you must be on the same page, if not you're going to go no where fast.

Is she diagnosed? What are some of the things she does, if you don't mind?

Following the diagnosis, was there any follow up services like therapy or anything to support the two of you as you deal with this?

We are not together & the sorry SOB doesn't give 2 smurfs about anything. He only sees her 6 days out of the month (when it's good for him).

She is always throwing fits, goes from one mood to the next, hits, bites, punches, ANYThING in sight. Animals, people it don't matter to her
She isn't scared of anything. Heights, knifes, guns, animals, NOTHING.

I have to keep ALL knifes, forks, anything sharp, pens, pencils, away from her at all times. She will stab/cut herself or anyone around.
Hates going to her school, bad behavior at school, one more bad thing she does at school she gets kicked out (this is a special needs school)
She don't like me out of her sight

Does NOT sleep without her RX sleeping meds

List goes on.

I'm not an expert, but I think that taking away her toys isn't a bad idea. Not in the form of a punishment, but a way to help her focus better. I don't know what your day to day schedule looks like with your daughter, but I would think she needs a strict schedule. When she begins to act out find something, just one thing to focus on. Drawing, painting, some sort of outlet for her, but nothing too complicated or with a lot of direction.

I have ADD and sometimes I will sit and practice my signature over and over. I know that sounds really odd, but it's simple, calming, doesn't take a lot of thought, and really helps when I can't help my racing thoughts. Just try to think simple and best of luck to you.

do you medicate? my son had to try many medications until we found the ones we liked. I was totally against medicating at first, but in the end it was best for him. medication caused other issues to crop up though. he has mood swings and anxiety now. he has to see a psychiatrist now to deal with his anxiety. he has breakdowns if he doesn't understand something, or if it doesn't go his way. once he starts doing this, I send him to his room, and once he calms down he comes back down stairs and apologizes. sometimes he apologizes that day, sometimes it wont be til the next day. but he realizes what he did after the moment has passed and can talk about it. we do sticker charts for him (eating, cleaning, and behavior) once he reaches a set amount of stickers he gets a prize. because of his meds he has stopped eating, so he is on meds for that as well, and sees a nutritionist. he is gaining, but it is slow work. many issues can stem from ADHD. has her doctor offered any advice on therapy or medication?

First, BREATH!

Put yourself in a room for a minute, plug your ears, close your eyes and breath (or, sing loudly like I do lol)

My son has autism, I get where you are coming from. Stop and try to figure out why she's doing what she's doing. Is she tired? Hungry? Bored? There's always a reason, its just in figuring out what it is.

Oh, wow! You can pretty much ignore my previous advice.

Have you tried any behavior therapy? I mean that in the best way possible. I smurfing hate the internet because I feel like I always come off smurfy.

She sees therapy at school. As for the both of us no.

I signed her up for disablity & at her 1st appointment the shrink talked with me & she said she knew she was ADHD & had behavior problems before she even looked at her paperwork by the way she acted.

I'm currently trying to read 1-2-3 magic. A book FOR ADHD/behavior issues, to help the kids understand & help with parenting.
