Nikon vs. Canon.

Which do you recommend? This is my first camera. I need a very fast shutter speed&decent quality.

i have the nikon d3000
i love it.
im still learning about it and ive had it for 2 years lol... i mainly shoot in auto.. but im trying to branch out and shoot in manual.
but overall it takes very crisp photos

is it a long pause between click and the picture taking?

I think it's a personal preference.. try going to the store and picking both cameras up and see which one just feels better to you?
I've always liked Canon over Nikon.

I hated my D3000. It's a good starter camera but it is terrible in low light situations.

With both those links you posted, the lenses they come with are actually pretty crappy.
I recommend buying a camera body, and a 50mm 1.8 lens to start off with. The kit lenses are no better than a chunk of plastic paper weight.

But honestly, the kit lens is crap.
This is from when I first got my 50mm. So it's pretty crappy in comparison to more recent pictures, but it serves its point, lol

Oh, and I have a D7000 now.

I love Canon and my T3!

I liked my D3000 as a good starter camera, a year down the road I was ready to upgrade.

Camera people.. so the 50 mm is a good starter type lens? I just have my kit lens, but want something new.

I don't know much about Canon, but yes that'd be a good combination.
Not sure how old the XSi is though, and if you'd be able to find a newer body for just a little more. I also am leery of buying camera equipment on ebay.
