Coconut oil for diaper rash? CD mamas.

posted 28th Jan
Have you used coconut oil for diaper rash? Does it work? If not, what else works well for a cloth diapered baby? Besides breastmilk. I tried that. We had to use disposables while his cord healed/fell off (it was infected) and his antibiotic gave him diarrhea. Now he has a rash that's gotten better since we switched to our cloth, but it's still there.

Yep. I use coconut oil every diaper change to protect the skin and I've used it in the past to clear up ammonia burn and yeast rashes. No need for a barrier/liner

I use cornstarch, CJ's BUTTer, or coconut oil.

i have not used it yet for a rash.
California baby has a diaper area/boo boo spray that works great! Or I just use reg diaper cream ( butt paste) and I put a baby wash cloth over the butt to protect my cloth diaper.

if it doesn't improve in a day or so, cut it, try corn starch for a day or two then try it again and you'll know. Rory screamed bloody murder getting changed it hurt so bad.

Maybe I'll alternate anyway. Try cornstarch every other change.

I noticed cornstarch worked best for us at all so far. Even with bag balm and disposables.

I tried just Balmex with his disposables and it did nothing. Then Vaseline, which helped some, but didn't get rid if it. His whole butt is red now, but not rashy. He just has a little raw spot.

I LOVE LOVE coconut oil! It's great for everything! Great to cook with too.

I've been using it on DS who has like the most super sensitive bum ever! However I think it is way way more effective if you get the organic cold pressed kind. I got the mechanically pressed kind and it didn't heal his rash. It soothed it and it definitely looked better. But after I kept reading about it I got the cold pressed kind and it cleared the rash completely up. Also I really really like the Angel Baby Earth Mama diaper rash stuff, it is CD safe too!

If you're going to do disposable go pick up a can of bag balm from walmart. Works great!

I got mechanically pressed because that's all they had. I want to get some of the virgin kind, but it's hard to find around me. I hope it helps him! His rash isn't bad and doesn't seem painful anymore. His whole toosh has turned red, not rashy, just red since we started cloth. I may strip his diapers to see if it's them.
