Yep. When my son started doing it I asked Dr. Alisa Baer (Aka The Car Seat Lady) for advice. Her suggestion was to treat it like any SERIOUS behavioral offense. Whatever discipline measures you would take for any other dangerous action, use every single time you catch little one undoing the chest clip. Another idea that can help deter her until she learns NOT to touch it, is to put a small piece of the scratchy side of Velcro on the parts where you unclip it. It's uncomfortable to touch but in no way interferes with the function.

Well at home I put her on time out, and she responds well to that. But I can't exactly put her on time out in the car, and even though I have put her on time out for it when we got home, I'm not sure she really understood because that was like 30 min after she did it. So I'm just kind of stumped. But, I'm really hoping since she hasn't done it in a few days, she'll stop.

Start leaving a little earlier than normal and if you catch her unclipping it, pull into a safe area, take her out and have her sit in a "time out" on a curb, in another seat, wherever you can safely and let her know how very, very upset mommy is. Overdramatize it a bit if you must but make it memorable. It's a pain in the butt but I had to give my son "time out" in the gas station parking lot a few times. However, those few times was all it took to kick the behavior.

That's super smart. We're having similar issues, but he seems to understand the "hurt you part" I tell him if he unclips it, he could seriously get hurt if mommy's car went "crash boom pow", I tried talking on his level and now he's leaving it alone. But, I think the Velcro idea is cool. I might need to try that if I catch him doing it again. He's got sensory issues so I bet he leaves it alone then
