Weird period question

For whatever reason If I don't have a tampon in, I bleed heavily. If I put in a tampon (my preferred choice over a pad) I can tell I'm not bleeding much and even a regular feels too dry and it looks like its not absorbing much however Im not bleeding around it either. Obviously for now I need to just use pads but I find it strange that my period is "slowing down" whenever I have a tampon in. Obviously the concept is to sop up the bleeding, not stop up the bleeding. :/ this had never happened to me before. I have only had three periods since my son was born 13 months ago, starting again in december when I got on nuve ring, this one being the first one where I have bled enough to warrant the use of anything but a panty liner. I tried to google to see if anyone had this issue but all the results I got were people bleeding through tampons.

I'd do whatever feels most natural. Have you considered the Diva Cup or cloth pads at all? I don't use disposable feminine products anymore and my periods are lighter, but in a good way. No chemicals and not as bad of cramps either.

I bleed around a tampon... it won't soak up much blood at all yet my underwear gets bloody. Pisses me off. Tampons aren't really good for you anyway.

I have heard ALOT about the diva cup but can't wrap my head around a few things, like what if you have a heavy flow and go out and your "full"? If its a public restroom, ok I could see dumping in the toilet, bye bye blood. But aren't you supposed to rinse it out before reinserting it? Public bathroom plus rinsing a bloody diva cup... Sounds weird. I haven't actually been to their site or read FAQs so this is all my imagination making questions in case they sound dumb or weird.

I have done that with cheap tampons. Not sure if it makes a difference. I usually go with tampax but will buy the dollar general ones in a pinch.
The dollar general ones didn't do anything but take up room in my vag.

You don't HAVE to rinse it out. Some women wipe it out with a wipie or TP.

I didn't get to use mine yet, I got pregnant... but I used Instead soft cups. I just dumped and put it back.

That's the ONLY thing I am struggling with, BUT I just do exactly what you stated, I empty and reinsert. I just wash it real good once I am home and able.
