would you flip out

if someone told you they're going to start spanking YOUR kid?

My mother recently started staying with us (we rent the house she owns) because her relationship went to smurf. My daughter is very hyper and has an issue with listening. My mom is sometimes not that nice to her either which gets on my nerves. I have to contantly remind her that my daughter is only 4 and to chill out and stop yelling/swearing/being mean.
she just told me she's going to start spanking my daughter. I said "no you're not"
and she's like "yes I am"

I will lose my mind if she hits my kid.

Yeah, I'd flip out...and Momma would be on her way out the door.

Yep. I would beat her ass if she hit my kid. My mom knows better.

Hell no. I would cut contact until she got her head on straight. None of that would fly with me. Yelling, swearing enough is pretty dysfunctional in itself.

Yeah--no smurfing way. We do spank, and i still would not let someone else spank my kid. I would tell your mom to smurf off and get out

Absolutely I would flip! And she would be told if she can't except/respect your parenting style, then she is more then welcome to leave. I would also make it known that the police would be called if I found out she laid a hand on my child.

No one would ever touch my kid!

Wow! um yeah. I have smacked DD's hand twice I regret doing it buut at the time it was instictual and out of fear i guess, She went to touch the cooker and the other time she was grabbing a knife above her head. I would smack my mum before i let her smack my child, We are strict parents we use timeout and discussion and DD is a handful but its your descision how you parent your child not anyone else. What does your partner think?

I allow my mother to discipline my daughter but she would never hit her and if she she just told me she was going to spank my daughter without my permission I would be kicking her ass out the door...

I would first try talking to my mom about the situation, before flipping out.
Help her understand my thoughts on the subject.. etc.

My mom does discipline my child but she does it in the way I approve of.

example :
Time out, taking a toy away, no tv for the day... etc.

but she does not spank my child UNLESS he absolutely does something wrong. which usually the first steps do the trick. she has spanked him maybe once or twice. nothing hard, just a tap on the hand or bottom.

BUT , if my mom did something I did not approve of, better believe I would fllip out.
After all, my kids.. my way.

My parents and bfs parents know they are NOT allowed to spank my kids. any in general. If I am not allowed to discipline your kids then dont think your allowed with mine. Id raise hell and make damn sure it doesnt happen.

I would tell her to find somewhere else to live just for the yelling and swearing. Not a chance in hell she would ever be allowed to HIT my child.

Violence isn't tolerated in this family and that includes violent threatening language.
