playdate ?

posted 28th Jan
My DD is 2 1/2 and a family friend has a 9 year old daughter and this woman keeps trying to set up a play date with her 9 year old and my 2 year old. I find this odd. I tried to tell her things like "my daughter really likes playing with kids her own age I'm sure yours does too" and "My daughter has a lot of friends her age" but this lady keeps hounding me about getting our girls together. Am I the only one who finds this odd? What 9 year old wants to spend the day playing with a 2 year old. And it's not like the mother and I are "friends" I just know her through my family

That is odd. I can't imagine her daughter wants a playdate. Maybe she's just trying to make friends with you?

I would assume that the mother is wanting to be friends/closer friends with you.

Eh. I'd imagine that she is trying to be friendly with you, and maybe her daughter likes kids, too.

My DD loves playing with older kids as well as kids her own age...

Or maybe she's seeing how her daughter does around younger kids to see if she wants to add to her family. Plenty of non-weird reasons.

My almost 3 year old enjoys playing with older kids. If the older child is a good influence it might not be a bad idea.
Also maybe the mom just wants to be closer to you?

this lady is pretty out there and I really don't want to be any closer to her. Plus we have zero in common so since she's not taking the hint I guess I need to be more blunt or just flat out ignore her

I should also mention that the 9 year old also has an older sister and younger brother to play with at home

and I also have a 4 year old so why wouldn't the 9 year old want to play with the 4 year old. IDK this lady is just odd

Quoting summerbabyX2:" this lady is pretty out there and I really don't want to be any closer to her. Plus we have zero in common ... [snip!] ... out ignore her I should also mention that the 9 year old also has an older sister and younger brother to play with at home"

OK, if she's odd that's completely different than someone perfectly nice asking for these things.

Either ignore her or tell her no.
