I've heard that RNs in the pacific northwest (especially the Portland metro area) make more than any other area. Also, I started out as relief at the hospital in hopes of becoming full time and not laid off... I just got a full time position last month

Your cost of living is probably higher too, but still 18 an hour is way too little for a nurse. then again, I am getting my teaching license, and I will not be making anywhere near that even. poop teachers need a pay raise ha

Not really. In fact, I'm doing a community assessment paper as we speak. The index of this area is 95 and 100 is the "normal"

dang! I need to move out there lol. I have a lot of family around Tacoma, but I've never even visited. do all jobs around there pay especially well or just nursing ones?

Most jobs pay well, and if you don't have any education min wage is almost 10$ an hour.

I wonder what the teaching market is like. I'll have my teaching license and my hubby has an associates degree in mechanics, so we both have an education. I really want to visit there-my family owns a zoo with kangaroos and camels,etc there!

I'm a teacher, they are lots openings it just depends what your certified for. I love it, I would never live anywhere else.

DH works for the gas company and makes $23/hour - no college education. I don't know about up in Tacoma. We live in southwest Washington, in Vancouver.
