re: Taxes... yes, another one...

I'm a full time RN, DH works for the local gas company and makes really good money... we way under guessed our gross income. We have to pay $2300 between state and federal. I feel like I'm being punished for finishing school and getting a good job. This was my first year as an RN.... and last year we got like $5k back.

Not that it's any of my business, but I'm really curious to know what you make an hour... You're getting ripped.

I agree! with that much education and such a high stress job carrying so many responsibilities, they should be paying you way more. Girl it's time to look for a new company to work for lol. I get jealous too when I hear people getting like huge amounts of money back

I made about 2k less than you, and I'm getting only about half of what I paid in back. Peter is claiming Ainsley, so since I made "so much" I'm in a higher bracket.

Nursing is super stressful... I feel like I'm compensated pretty fairly. Even though you're a new grad and still learning they should still pay you what your worth. Of course they'll just tax you more

Oh, damn! I should count my blessings that we don't have to pay. If we did, we wouldn't have anything left to buy baby items with. And I know just how you feel.

I make $18.03/hour. I had several years of experience as a CNA/QMA, so I make more than a new grad without any experience. The starting base pay at my hospital is $16.50/hour. It's a slap in the face.

That's awful! I started making $31.15/hour. I just got a 2% raise and I'll get a $1/hour raise when I complete my BSN in 3 months.

Very true! Have you thought about contributing to a 401K to decrease your adjusted gross income? I just started (the minute we found out we have to pay) contributing. Luckily you'll have another one to claim next year... DS is not DH's kid... we have to switch off every other year who claims him. Unluckily for us, it was not our year.

Holy smurf!

Just 3 hours from here (Chicago), new grads start at $32.00. I definitely feel cheated. I don't think our hospitals pay more for BSN. If they do, it's only like a 50 cent difference.

Move   You're getting seriously ripped off... or at least get some experience and go somewhere else.

We're planning on moving, but we have to wait for DH to finish his degree. Once he becomes an electrical engineer, we'll be set. I figured we'd be set after I got my RN, but I was terribly wrong.

How much longer until he's done?

You can't really file taxes if you don't have some sort of income to claim.

It will be awhile. He's changed his major 3 times. He started off doing graphic design, then sound engineering, now electrical engineering. He'll have his Associate's in a year.
