Yes, I'm using TurboTax and this is our first married year. I was 'single' last year.

Hmm... I don't know if it gave me the option for a standard deduction, but I'll browse around for it. All I know is I spent hours entering in every little expense and it didn't help us at all.

I didn't pay tuition in 2012. I graduated at the end of 2011. I know my student loan interest won't make that much of a difference for us. Maybe like $3 or something.

Have you hit the "file" button yet or are you still messing with it?

I used turbotax and it straight up told me that we'd get more back filing standard than itemized. But if you still haven' t actually filed you can go play with it and switch and see what it does.

I'm still messing with it. I just switched it from filing jointly to filing separately and I get back almost 2k more!

No, I haven't actually filed yet. I said that in the OP, but I'm just entering in stuff right now.

Yeah you gotta see how it works best for you. Filing separately versus filing jointly. Also his income could be putting you in a higher tax bracket. And look for that standard deduction versus itemized and see if that helps.

Oh I totally understand. It is about helping others, I love to help others & I find much joy in it. I am sorry   is it all of the being on your feet? I know my mom has issues with that, she is trying to find a desk job as a nurse so she can get off of her feet a bit. She does case management some days which gives her a little break from being on her feet but still isn't enough.

When i was playing with mine and was reviewing it (before i put in all deductions) it popped up with a message saying wed get more using standard and asked if i wanted to switch. Once i put in all the deductions and reviewed it the message never poppes up. So maybe its not showong u standard because ull get more itemizing.

I file on taxact and it starts with the standard and asks if you want to itemize... I'm not sure how turbotax works though:-/
