toddlers with Eczema (sp?)
posted 28th Jan
My 18 month old has had since shes been born, it just started getting noticeable around 8 months old. Her doctor said that we are doing everything we are suppose to to help her skin....only bathing her every other day, lotion, completey drying her skin after a bath and making sure she doesnt sweat too much. Recently she keeps having "flare ups". I've been putting Aveeno Baby Eczema lotion her her 2-3 times everyday... and her skin is still red and dry! She is always itching her arms and belly...and I can tell she is really uncomfortable. Is there anything else I can try to help soothe her skin??

I use eucerin on my kids. They have super dry skin and it doesn't have anything in it that can cause allergic reactions.

It went against everything they teach, but... the only way my son's got better was when I bathed him twice a day and coated him with baby aquaphor after. It worked miracles. Don't have a clue if it would help you, but that was my experience.

I have tried literally everything I could think of and what was suggested to me- organic coconut oil, oatmeal baths, aquaphor, cetaphyl, aveeno baby, California baby, selsun blue, head & shoulders- like seriously you name it I have tried it! I have made homemade baby exzema lotion bars, lotion, cream & body butter off Pinterest & I just took my son to the dermatologist because I was at the end of my rope and they have me a $5 bottle of topical body oil (I want to say bio smooth?) and we have been using it for 3 days and his eczema is GONE. Maybe ask your pedi or see a dermatologist because this stuff works miracles! My son was covered head to toe, face, belly, butt cheeks, arms, legs and its all gone!

My daughter was the same way. Still haven't found the right thing to help her. She gets really bad flare ups in the winter. She is now 8.

Have you tried a little cortisone cream? Just on the actual eczema patches. Let it soak in for a few minutes, then baby Aquaphor all over.

Olive oil! It'll work wonders at rehydrating the skin. And also, you're NOT suppose to dry all the way off after a bath. If its damp when you put lotion on it'll help. I have eczema and so does my DS. I've found that eucerin calming itch cream helps. I put it on before bed and by morning it looks a little better.

Forgot to add that my son is 3 & this is the prescription name for what we got "fluocinolone" I would definitely call & ask about it!

Check with your insurance and see of you new a referral to see a dermatologist (we didn't so I just called & made an appt) but if you do ask for a referral. I was sort of ticked that I have spent a couple hundred bucks on all these different products & ended up with a $5 bottle that is like a miracle oil lol. I'm just happy it works though. My son was so pitiful, he called his spots "itchies" and I hated seeing him uncomfortable, hopefully you can get a referral or see a dermatologist & fund something that works for you guys!

Her doctor told us to dry the skin all the way to so the warm water doesn't dry it out. I have eczema too, but the only time I had a flare was during pregnancy. . Any other time it doesn't itch. Maybe I'll try that, thanks.

I hope so too! My daughter calls her spots "owies". She had been to the point of making her arms bleed because she rolls up her sleeves when I'm not looking and itches them

I always use borderline Luke-warm/warm. I have to have it like that too or it's terrible. Maybe get the water as cool as you can without turning it into a cold bath, lol. That should help too.
A friend if mine went to school for dermatology and said not to fully dry off before applying lotion.

My sister has sever eczema and her specialist told my dad 1/4 of bleach for a whole tub of water. ...its suppose to kill the bacteria and help the itching, but I would think it would dry out the skin more...

Yikes. I just wouldn't feel comfortable with bleach in my water, eczema or not lol. I would think it would dry it out more too.
