BCP Question

posted 28th Jan
So, My little sister is sexually active. She's an adult, yes.. but she's still my little sister. Anyway.. she doesn't have insurance and she asked me about birth control the other day. I don't have insurance, but the pills that i was on before i stopped taking mine were $50 a month and i know she can't afford that. I think the Health Department here is free for check ups if you have low income but before she goes i wanted to see if anyone on here knew if walmart has any birth control pills on their $5 prescription lists. Anyone on an affordable BCP that i can recommend to her? She DOES NOT need to get pregnant right now, i HATE HATE HATE her AHole boyfriend.

Doesn't she still need a prescription in order to get possible BC from Walmart? Meaning, she'd have to go to the doctors?

Either way, I got a prescription for BC that was like... $7 or $9 a month. Sprintec. My sister is on the patch and gets it free from the health clinic. So if your sister can go to the health department and get a script, Sprintec is I *think* the cheapest BC pill.

ETA - And I'm from KY. So all of this (as well as my sister) were all done in KY.

I told her to set up an appointment with the Health Department. I'm not sure if she made the appointment yet or not but, i'll tell her to ask them to write a prescription for that one, if it's the cheapest. Her and her guy just moved in together and i guess.. started doing the do more, he won't wear condoms. Not good. Thanks for your reply.

Oh yeah. Definitely needing some BC   I wasn't working at the time, so I told the doctor I needed the cheapest pill they had. She prescribed the Sprintec. It worked pretty well, actually. My periods were AWFUL and irregular, and I was on the Sprintec for 3 months, stopped taking it, and my periods have been regular without it ever since.

Definitely try that if she can't make it to the health department every month or so for the free BC. My sister has to go every 3 months to get more patches.

Are their Planned Parenthoods in the area? They will give low-income women with no insurance a year's supply of birth control free.

Hmm.. I don't remember getting charged anything. (Different state obviously.) You could at least call and talk to them and ask.

I was in college full-time, and had no income because I wasn't working. They told me I was going to be billed $60 for the visit, and all the doctor did was make me pee on a pregnancy test, and then gave me a prescription for BC that I couldn't afford.

I was livid, lol.

I don't think we have a planned parenthood clinic here, we have something called Alpha Alternative Center, i know they give out free condoms to teens but i don't think anywhere here gives out free birth control pills.
