To cancel induction or not?
posted 28th Jan
My doctor has me scheduled to be induced on Wednesday, ill be 40 weeks 6 days then. There's no medical reason for me to be induced, the doctor said they don't like women to go that long over their due date. It's so tempting though knowing that ill have her by Wednesday or Thursday. I hope to go naturally though before then, on Friday my doctor said I was 2 cm dilated and this weekend I've been having a lot more contractions than I ever had, I really thought I was going into labor last night. I was thinking of canceling because I hear so many horrible stories about people being induced and how much worse the contractions are, and that they can end in a c section. I'm so confused on what to do. But tomorrow at my doctor appt I'm going to ask if they'll sweep my membranes and hopefully that'll do something. So if you were induced was it really horrible?

I've heard it's a lot worse than regular labor but seriously even one tiny bit worse than regular labor would be horrible. I'd cancel if I were in your shoes.

Some people will say theirs was great, others will say theirs sucked.
I was 40w3d w/ mine (medical though) & yes it sucked ass, ended in an emergency c-section. So no, I wouldn't get induced again for no medical reasoning.

I've been induced twice and both labors were vaginal, got the epidural, and lasted 12hours both times.

Don't be scared every pregnancy is different if it was not safe it would not be done my doc does not like to go over 40 weeks either I dnt think ill like to either but just talk it over with your doctor and good luck on ur choice

see what options your doctor is thinking about doing first.
I had to be induced because of medical reasons. I was 39 weeks exactly.
I had a "cervix ripening pill" incerted into my cervix and I started contractiong compleatly on my own after only that one pill.
I did not need pitocin, and I did not need it. Dr said I would prob need 3-5 of those pill inserted but I didnt. only 1.
So see what his/her steps are, and see if you are comfortable with those steps, it is YOUR labor, and delivery. you have the choice to wait if you want to. and as long as baby is moving around, and not in any distress theres no need to rush him/her (unless you want to=D being 40+ weeks and all your safe to go at anytime) so do what you feel is right for you and your baby

Not all of the stuff they use to induce labour is actually tested so I wouldn't say it is 100% safe. Take Cervidil for example.

Honestly, I would cancel the induction. I have heard horror stories of inductions. everyone I know, that has gone into natural labor and progressed naturally has had, easier labors and recoveries. I would ask for the membrane sweep. Personally, that is about all I would go with. I would just let nature take it's course.

I didn't notice a difference with pain, but that's me personally

'My friends labor went so fast with the pitocin that she didn't "progress" normally and tore severly! She didn't walk right for weeks. It was so sad. I walked better than her 2 hours after a c-section!

Ill ask about the cervix pill, my doctor only mentioned giving me pitocin, which is what I've heard bad things about. And they did a non stress test and baby is fine. Idk if I want to take a chance and "maybe" be one if the lucky ones who has a fine labor with being induced.

absolutely do it! My daughter was induced at 10 days past her due date.
Her skin was raw and peeling, it bled in places because her verix had washed away and her skin was soaking in the fluid for several days. She had breathing problems that arose 48 hours after her birth and it landed her in the NICU for a 48 hour observation. She couldn't control her breathing or her body temp for about 24 hours. It was horrible and unnecessary. Had my Dr. induced me at 5/6 days past, max, I wouldn't have had to worry for 48 hours or feel horrible about her bleeding cracked skin.
I honestly don't see any reason NOT to be induced after your due date. It was a easy 8 hours from check in to baby and I didn't feel a thing. Even when I ripped from clit to ass hole because she was born so quickly.

Induction is never completely safe so don't listen to whoever said "if it wasn't safe they wouldn't do it". That"s BS.
The reason you have to be constantly monitored on pitocin is because it can throw the baby into distress causing their heartrate to go crazy and that will end in an emergency c section. Doesn't sound too safe to me.

I have had one induction (when I was nineteen didn't know I could say no) and two natural births (although I did have acupuncture done with my last by my mid wife and was having regular contractions within 30 minutes). I found that both my naturals were alot faster. Although here in New Zealand inductions arnt usually done till at least 10 days over due date
