a baby can be distressed by natural birth too.

induction is safer than letting your child stay in side you too long.

I would personally avoid induction. Due dates aren't 100% so even though you're supposedly 40+ weeks you could only be 38 weeks for all you know. Every bit of extra time allows the baby to develop that much more. If your blood pressure is fine, the baby isn't in distress, etc. then there's absolutely no reason a woman has to deliver by a certain time. (I mean if I made it past 42 weeks I would start considering an induction but that almost never happens and when it does it's usually because the due date was miscalculated to begin with.)

The most important thing is the safety and health of you and your baby. If you find yourself past, say, 42 weeks or so and you're incredibly uncomfortable or the baby starts to go into distress then definitely opt for an induction. Until then I wouldn't do it but that's just me. I never made it that far along in my pregnancy and I can imagine being THAT pregnant is incredibly difficult... lol. My sympathies are with you on that. Good luck!

I cancelled my induction after I found out I was scheduled for one with out being consulted first! I would cancel again in a heartbeat. I ended up going into labor naturally two days before my Ob had me scheduled.

Doesn't your placenta start calcifying after 40 weeks or so? Or is that a myth?

That's sad poor baby I wonder why some babys need help being born by getting induced?

Aww   I'm sorry that happened. This is why I'm so unsure because I also hear that it's not good for baby to be in the womb for too long because they can have their fist poop and inhale it, or the placenta starts deteriorating. They did an ultrasound on me on Friday and didn't seem concerned about anything. I just don't want the possibility of anything like that to happen or having the baby become stressed. Did they give you pitocin or something else?

There are virtually no dangers to going overdue until you pass the 42 week mark generally.

Obviously, a baby can be distressed by an kind of birth. The difference between natural and induced is it happens wayyyy more often during inductions. Pitocin is NOT good for the baby. What's good for the baby is trying everything else possible and waiting until 2 weeks past the due date. There are women who have gone 4 weeks past their due date and not had the issues you had. Just because it happened to you doesn't mean its common. My son was born 10 days past his due date and he was doing amazing in there.

I was induced this past november at 39 weeks due to IUGR. Ezekiel had already had a bowel movement as well. The only reason I didn't like it was because I went without pain meds & didn't get the epidural until 7 & 1/2 hours into active labor. I strained my back doing it but as soon as I got the epi I took a small nap & within a 2.5 hour period I went from 4cm to 10. I even had an episiotomy but I recovered pretty quick. I was up & moving 2 hours after I delivered & my baby was perfectly healthy

I have no personal opinion on induction. Never been there.

However.. since your thinking of considering it, it must be something that's weighing heavily on your mind.
Take a day or so to think about it, and then follow your gut.
