Age Kids OK to use Public Restroom ALONE
posted 27th Jan
I am wondering what age your kids are or would be okay'ed to use a public restroom on their own. For my situation I am thinking, my sons to use the men's room alone while I wait outside. This will be a post and run because I'm getting ready to snuggle up with my hubby and watch a movie. But I'm genuinely curious what other parents/caregivers takes are.

If I'm waiting outside the restroom, 6.
If I'm not, probably 8 or 9.

A little girl here was raped and murdered in a public toilet a few years ago, I won't let my kids go into a public toilet alone possibly ever

My boy's are 7 and almost 5 and I still have them go into the ladies room with me.
I have been told only one time that my boys are to old to be in there, but my personal opinion is that they are too young to go by themselves still.
So for me personally maybe when my oldest is 10.

Hmmmm I don't know. My daughter is 5 and I still go with her. Maybe 8ish if I can see the restroom.

With my almost 5 yr old son, it depends. If its a busy store I take him in the womens room with me. If its a small store, really not a lot of people I wait outside. He's starting to become more independant with stuff like this and likes his privacy

Agreed. My older daughter is 9 and has been going alone since she was 8. She's very mature though and I know that if anyone tried anything she would scream bloody murder. I've had talks with her many times and remind her each time she goes. I feel completely comfortable letting her go to the bathroom alone while in a smaller place like a restaurant, but if we're in a large place like a grocery store, I go with her. I don't know about if I had a son though. The weirdos always tend to be men

Idk, my friend's son is eight and one day we were at CiCis and she let him go to the restroom and some guy attacked him. If it wasn't because one of the employees walked in, who knows what could had happened. We were also sitting like right outside.
I guess, I'd let LO go when she's 12+ when she is at least a little more capable of defending herself.
Idk, I'm such a worry freak.

It partly depends on their maturity level and partly on where you are at. If you are in a place where you could not hear them and could not get to them, then I would be iffy about it. If there is only a single toilet and door access, then you can be assured that no one else will be in there at the same time, thus you could send them in at a younger age. If you're in a place, such as a rest stop off the highway, I would not let them go in the bathroom alone, as scary things can happen at those places, and help is not necessarily easily accessible.
So, in the end, if you feel you are in a safe place, your child is fully capable of wiping, washing, ect. without issue, than it would likely be fine to send them in alone. But, if you do not feel comfortable with it for any reason, don't do it.
My 8 year old (9 tomorrow ) is fully able to use the restrooms alone in our regular haunts, he also will not go with me to the ladies room, so it's becoming a losing battle on my part, lol. I still wait outside the restroom though. Most of the place we go have single toilet bathrooms with door locks so it's not a big deal, but I try to send his dad in when we have to use a more crowded place, and I stay close by ready to run in if needed, lol. He is my baby afterall.

hard to pick an exact age... I don't think I'd be comfortable until at least 7 though.
